That's a silly argument. I enjoy driving when the driving is enjoyable, but sometimes it's just about getting from A to B. Sometimes there's stop-and-go traffic between A and B. Take that off my hands and I'm a happier person. Sure L3 and beyond self-driving isn't for everyone, but you do have to recognize that most people don't actually like driving at all. If the Cosmos is to be a car for most people, that is a significant thing to address.

I'm not so sure. Lucid has described the Sapphire brand as performance focused. And while obviously that can include a track car, I think performance covers much more than just lap time on a race track. I'm betting on a Sapphire Gravity being announced, but I think it's possible for that vehicle to take everything about an SUV to the limit, and not just repeat what they did with the Air. I even think it's possible that the Gravity X concept is a preview of what a Gravity Sapphire would be.

One of the impressive things about a Sapphire Air how it mixes insane track performance with being a vehicle you can happily use as a daily driver as well. I used to drive a Jeep Wrangler, which was incredibly capable off-road, but was objectively terrible on-road. If Lucid can turn the Gravity's off-road performance up to 11, while still being something you'd love to take the family in on a multi-day road trip, that could merit a Sapphire label. I don't think that's the only direction they could go with it, just one plausible option.
 
Interesting how we define "sportier". M1 Concourse is adding a drag strip, electric Kart track and dirt off-road course in addition to the 1.5 mile track on property - all sporty endeavors. :). Can't wait to see how Lucid defines "sportier" at Monterey!

Reception was very positive for the Gravity X and there is a reason that it is still being talked about until this day. It is not about going off road, it is more about the look. The outdoorsie and off-road trims sell very well, hence why every brand and their mothers offer one. Heck, it is the whole Jeep thing. People want them and Broncos because they look cool and sell accordingly. At a higher price point, that is all also the G-Wagon and Land Rovers of the world. This would be a much easier sell for an SUV over a high performance trim, IMO.
 
Well both the Cayenne EV is 200K and very sporty, and the EV G-Wagen is 200k and off-roady capable. Of course nobody buys the electric G because it has on a good day 150 miles of cool weather highway range, so you'll never get to your off-road location or be stranded immediately...No reason there can't be a 200K Gravity...It was probably mostly already done before Silvio got there and canned the rest of the development and Emad left...
 
I highly doubt that a Gravity Sapphire would out perform a Porsche Cayenne Turbo EV. Only bragging rights might be that the Gravity would give you similar performance with more passenger/storage room. People are willing to spend $200+ for a Porsche Turbo EV because it is “A PORSCHE”. Lucid does not have that reputation (yet). Gravity X would sell in much larger numbers and at this time Lucid needs to increase it’s sales numbers. I live in Houston and see tons of decked out luxury SUVs - Land Rovers, G Wagons, Broncos, etc. that will never see dirt beyond the dirt road going to their weekend ranch house and most not even that. It is all about the look. Gravity X minimizes the “minivan vibes”.

I spend a certain amount of time off the grid and the pavement. I've at least seen Land Rovers and Broncos off the pavement (not commonly for Land Rovers from this century). But I have yet to see a single G Wagon driven off pavement. I'm sure someone does it, and maybe it's just that the price point means so few of them are driving anywhere that it's not surprising I've missed seeing one off road. But my guess is that most people don't want spend that kind of money and then drive it over a boulder and dent something, or scratch all the paint from branches dragging over the vehicle. And realistically, a Gravity GT is pricey enough to elicit a similar reaction. The nice thing about the Wrangler I used to drive is that it was a cheap car to begin with, so it didn't feel so bad to put a dent in it. And of course it was much cheaper to get repaired than any current EV I'm aware of.

Nah, that didn’t go into my decision to buy the Gravity at all. Totally not about having fun on my solo drives, where I mentally say “punch It” (fellow fans will get the reference) before hitting the accelerator. Nope, it was all about making my wife happy that we have a luxurious, family road tripping, cargo hauling monster 🤣.
