Hey everyone,

I'm experiencing some behavior that Lucid CC claims is "by design," but it doesn't seem right to me. Hoping to get your thoughts on whether this sounds like a bug or if I'm missing something.

The main issue:
I was planning a trip about 500 miles away. When I clicked "Show Route" in the navigation, my car immediately started preconditioning. Here's the weird part - the first charging stop it's routing me to is 130 miles away from my current location.

This seems odd because why would it start preconditioning for a charger that's 130 miles out?
Shouldn't preconditioning happen closer to when I actually need it?

What I've tried:
Performed a full reset
Power cycled the vehicle
Reached out to Lucid Customer Care (they say it's working as intended)

Secondary issue:
I'm also not seeing the Heated/Ventilated seats and heated steering wheel tiles in the Mobile App.

Mobile app troubleshooting done:
Restarted my phone
Force-closed and reopened the mobile app
Logged out and logged back in
Still no luck

Conclusion:
Would really appreciate hearing if others have seen this behavior or if your cars/apps work differently.

Preconditioning will keep the battery at the optimal temp, but it adjusts as you get closer to your destination. So while it may be set for preconditioning, if you’re hundreds of miles away, it shouldn’t actually be doing much of anything other than waiting. The thing this saves you is having to hit precondition on your own.

That said, I could be wrong on this; I’m not certain.
 
I believe the car is trying to bring the battery to optimal temperature for obtaining the most range. Maximum efficiency for a battery is at a certain temperature. It "knows" you are going a good distance, so it is trying to get you there by bringing it to the best temperature for maximum efficiency.
 
Over a lot of time using the inbuilt navigation, my Air consistently displays that it has started preconditioning only when it thinks it is 45 minutes (or less) from the charging stop. (I don't know why it thinks it needs a full 45 minutes, but so be it.) Thus, unless you are driving 173.33 MPH, I think there is something amiss.

I don't disagree that the car routinely optimizes the battery temperature, but it doesn't tell you about it.

Modern EVs precondition the battery before a cold-weather drive to bring it into its “sweet spot” temperature range so you get better performance, range, and charging behavior, while also protecting long‑term battery health.

What cold does to the battery​

  • Lithium‑ion chemistry slows down when cold, so the pack can’t deliver or accept power as efficiently and you lose range and performance.
  • EV batteries work best around roughly 68–86°F (about 20–30°C), and below ~60°F they start to fall outside their optimal zone.

Why precondition before driving​

  • Heating the pack up to that optimal window restores power output, improves throttle response, and allows normal regenerative braking instead of heavily limited regen you see with a cold pack.
  • Because the car is usually plugged in while preconditioning, it draws energy from the grid rather than from the battery, preserving more usable range once you set off.

Benefits for charging and longevity​

  • A cold battery cannot fast‑charge efficiently; the BMS will throttle charge power to protect the cells, so preconditioning before a DC fast charge lets you reach much higher kW and shorter sessions.
  • Repeatedly pushing a very cold pack (high discharge or fast charge) can stress it, so bringing it to a moderate temperature first helps reduce wear and support long‑term capacity retention.

I have a question about preconditioning.
I have 240v 40amp line at home. Do I need to preconditioning the Battery each time I charge? Or is it necessary at all to preconditioning?
