Lucid Gravity 3.4.0 software update

Mine actually got worse, it's dropped from 60% to 40%. Before it would start at 19kw, then 11kw. This time it never got over 18kw, then 7kw. I also noticed the charging range on the display was defaulted to 48A/80A after the update. I moved it up to 80A beforehand. Will give it a go again tomorrow to build my case for replacing the BMS.

My GT had been not even able to hold 11kw on my Chargepoint 48A home charger while my DE could. Before it would drop from 11kw to 7kw but today I tried with the big update and it dropped one more time to 4kw. Looks like this will be in the list with the due bill service appointment

Update began rolling out Friday, still haven’t received it yet. It’s not like there’s hundreds of thousands of Gravitys in the wild. How long can it take to deliver a few thousand OTA software updates?

I just received a notification of a key fob update this evening.
I had already updated to 02.35.08 after installing 3.4.1 on Saturday.
Did the key fob update again; same version as before.

Same thing happened to me.

I updated the car last night, and the fob this morning.
In the afternoon I received a notification to update fob SW again.

But in the phone app it does not show the fob SW version. Where can I see that?

I wasn’t planning on reaching out to CS at all. It just seems like they could push out critical OTA updates like this a little quicker. If this were a small update with minor fixes I’d understand. But this is supposedly an update to correct a lot of issues that shouldn’t have been present from the start and affect daily use.
I didn’t have to wait a week or weeks to get my Tesla to fart.

Lucid slow rolls the updates because there have been multiple instances where the update introduced a new, big issue with some vehicles (Air), and they've halted the rollouts until the issue(s) were fixed. This prevents a huge number of customers from having the same issues.

That’s on them, they need to get major bugs found via beta testing. Then release smaller patches via future OTA updates to catch undiscovered bugs.

any impressions regarding an improvement in the camera quality?

After using them on 3.4.1 for a whole day...

- Resolution is a bit higher during the day
- They do come up a bit faster in most cases (I still have cases of delays and cameras unavailable)
- Still a tiny rectangle on the cockpit panel for the blind spot ones
- Still garbage at night/when dark

Overall, I had higher hopes. Looks like we are stuck with the 1997 webcams Lucid sources for the Gravity

Hmm. I think - and a lot of others on this forum do too - that the blind spot cameras are dramatically higher resolution, with higher frame rate and much quicker onset with turn signaling. Also wider FOV. I feel like it was maybe 720p before and now definitely 1080p or higher. I agree night camera lighting isn’t much better. But very happy with the blind spots. Also the see thru feature is great for parking.

I have had no issues with cameras unavailable or any delays. This is a major improvement compared to before the update.

This is pretty much how all major software upgrades are rolled out, for any company trying to operate at scale.

So after listening to the podcast interview w/ Emad, plus playing around with the 3.4.1 update in the car for the past ~2 days or so, I have a pretty good guess as to what happened with the Gravity software pre-3.3.20. It basically came down to the lack of integrated development and testing, and what Emad called "silos" within each of the departments/teams responsible for each aspect of the vehicle.

Think of it as each team is responsible for its own piece of functionality, and/or piece of hardware and firmware. In isolation, that feature works fine. Maybe it tested great in development, or on virtual machines. But when all the parts come together, there should have been work to integrate each of the disparate pieces, both from a functionality and testing standpoint, and that didn't happen to the extent that it should have when the car launched.

For instance, I've long suspected that the random failure notifications weren't real bugs, just a hardware component having hiccups (maybe it didn't start fast enough), and Gravity's OS not giving it any time to settle down; that's likely how they're reducing those alerts w/ 3.4.1, by checking more than once or waiting a little bit. This also explains why the flakey left control pad is fixed with software; the OS is prioritizing commands from the pad to DDP. I bet this is why they removed some seat controls from the UI; they couldn't get them to respond reliably from the infotainment screen, and so it's easier to just remove the functionality than delay startup or cause UI glitches.

Which brings me to the other tell, that Lucid is removing graphics to stabilize the platform. The main drive screen has static images for drive modes now, and the seats graphics + controls are simplified as well. I've also noticed the cockpit map loads faster, again likely due to optimizations in what gets loaded. Each screen may have worked fine by themselves, but stack 15+ screens that can be navigated at any time by the driver/passenger, and the infotainment CPU/GPU was likely under strain. I also suspect using fewer rendering resources was a necessary improvement to bring CarPlay + Android Auto, as showing those screens would have strained the previous interface.

Day two and more observations

still no false warnings
car seems really responsive to approaching the car and the boot up, also isn't lingering to lock when walking away
I can't quantify it but it seems the heater is more efficient getting the car to temp, but I admit it's 25f instead 10f lol
side cameras are better at day but when dark it's still grainy, hopefully that gets changed via exposure (see above someone else noticed this)
tried the DD pro buttons even though I'm on suburb streets and the left pad buttons are responsive
the back seat movement that they implemented I am very grateful for as I often put the seats down to lug stuff around and before I had to move the driver seat forward to get the 2nd row seat back up, now I can press the button to have the back seat go back instead
So far don't see the point to the transparent car park feature but I did threaten my wife that I'd make her disappear too if she wont stop nagging me about chores

This is not good! It seems the update has led to increased charging issues instead of fixing/solving the 80A continuous charge issues for some of us. Before the update, mine would hold a 48A continuous charge, any attempted amp charge amount above 48A, resulted in reduction of charging rate by 40%, and as of the update yesterday, it's now reduced by 60%. I'm going to test mine at 48A later to see if they've also taken this ability away from me.

Nevertheless I observe that he doesn’t “ trust “ the Lucid Nav system maps choosing to mount his phone on the left hand side and run Google Maps/waze? Simultaneously to the Lucid system! Why is this needed on $120k car?

post update, the changes they made to the battery management system for at home charging are terrible!!!

Before the update, the car would start charging at 19kW (80A) for 15-30 minutes, then drop down to 60% of that or 11kW (48A) for the remainder of the charge.

Post update, the car would start charging at only 18kW for 30 minutes, then slowly taper down. It’d first drop down to 13kW, then drop and stay at 7kW for the remainder of the charge.

The changes they made to the battery management system are a complete step backwards.

Edit 1: After stopping the charge early to restart it and see if the car can start charging again at the higher rate, the car is giving me a black screen and is completely non responsive. Had to do a hard reset to bring it back (held steering wheel buttons for 25 seconds to get the double beep).

Edit 2: Was finally able to get the car to start charging again after the hard reset. Car is back to charging again at 18kW and will most likely repeat the same charging cycle I stated above.

Anybody with 48A chargers at home noticing anything different about your charging?

Pre update:
- Starts at 100% of set max amps
- Drops down to 60% of max amps

Post update:
- Starts charging at slightly less than 80A
- Drops down to 70% of set max amps (I set mine to 80A)
- Drops down to 36% of set max amps

Edit 3: The car charged at 18kW for 5 minutes and is now back to 7kW (28A or 36% of my max amps setting).

1 day with the update and it's been great, significant improvement in the software. The camera resolution, especially at night has been significantly improved. Buttons and touchscreen work every time as opposed to intermittently before. Overall, it's been great. As I have stated before, based on where they've "started" compared to my previous Teslas, I'm very exited for the continuing improvements. I know the people buying this car have different expectations than the earlier adopters of the Teslas, but if kept in mind that your car is generally only going to get better, I think people will be very pleased.

Not sure it got mentioned, but the profile bug has been resolved. I can now use my own profile, link it to the key fob and stream music. I no longer need to use the guest profile (which btw worked great but now the wifey and I can have separate profiles that actually work and remember settings.

The SW version only shows immediately after an update has been completed.
That's why the message will read as "This key fob is up to date". See first pic below
Once you exit out of the Software Update screen and return to it, that message goes away to be replaced by the "Update Key Fob" screen. See second pic below.
