Lucid Air Work order for Drive System Failure

I would like to share the work that was done to my car 2 months back for front motor failure.

Lucid performed a lot of courtesy inspection and work beyond what I asked for. and did a bunch of replacements and fine tuning.

I would rate the service itself as 8.4 out of 10, because of the 1 month delay to get all done and not so great loaner. but the communication was excellent from their part and they were very clear that it will take time.

it would have been a perfect score if they arrange to fix the car within 2 weeks or less + arrange a loaner in 1 week time and provide a good loaner. I got US made air with US plug charger and the car was not suited for a great loaner experience. I still thank them for trying to provide the best experience with the available resources.

At least you got an actual Lucid loaner. When I had my drive system failure in the middle of a road trip, I just got rental reimbursement and due to timing and limited availability ended up with:

1. Toyota RAV4 - janky as hell and a death trap in the snow and ice of upstate NY in January. That got me to Maryland.

2. Switched to an ICE Mercedes compact SUV of some sort for the rest of if the trip home to Texas (about 1000 miles). It was better than the Toyota but still pretty awful. Under powered and expensive to fill with gas. It got me the rest of the way home.

3. Once home I was finally able to at least get an EV, a MachE. It was way better than the two ICE vehicles but still pretty "meh" especially compared to the Lucid I'm so used to.


I'm in another rental again now while I wait for the transport to bring my car down to the SC. This time I've got a Volvo C40. Again a small step up from the MachE, but the range is kind of crap.

Though I'm not holding my breath, I'm really hoping I can finagle an actual loaner as I've got some road trips planned and I've really come to depend on the range and cargo space in the Air and having to take the Volvo will really cramp my road-tripping style.

What were the symptoms of the failure? I had drive fault and loss of power. Saw on the work order it said Rear Drive Unit Overcurrent. Car has been in for one month and, from their weekly text updates, no one has touched it yet. It’s out in the front large lot, not even the service lot.
