I live in South Carolina and am thus unable to lease a Lucid. I decided to purchase instead but my sales associate is telling me info that I don't think is accurate. I'd like to hear from any other owners in SC.
Long story short, after a month of dealing with the sales guy, a day before I had a purchase appointment he calls to tell me I can't pick up the car because SC has a law that you can't pickup a car in another state if purchasing it from the manufacturer (a law to protect 3rd party dealers). As a result, they have to deliver the car to my house in SC which means I will no longer receive the $2k on-site discount.
I googled and even read the SC law books and can find no such law. I can see in Tesla forums people from SC pick up their cars in other states and then the owner has to go to the county treasurer to pay the taxes, then go to the DMV to register. Tesla (and presumably Lucid) can't do that part for you. But nowhere are buyers blocked from picking up their new car.
I was ready to purchase the on-site car yesterday but this ruined the whole deal as I felt like the sales guy didn't really know what he was talking about and made no effort to help solve this problem. He was perfectly happy to just raise the price of the car $2k on me right when I was ready to buy, despite working with him for a month and him knowing from day one where I lived. Left a very bad "used car salesman" taste in my mouth.
If there are owners here from SC, I'd appreciate hearing about any purchase limitations you faced in this regard.
