If the Lexus-EV SUV has the same ethos as other Toyota/Lexus products, one would expect:

....availability of parts
....reliable out of the gate.

Buyers often start with brands that are known and trusted. Reliability, ownership experience, and resale value are the hallmarks of the Toyota\Lexus brand. And for a lot of folks those are compelling and more than enough.

Well, I had a Lexus 450 RX hybrid SUV for 6+ years until I traded it in for my Rivian R1S.

Lexus is not known for exciting cars that blow your socks off. Their value-proposition is solid engineering, deliver-to and exceed their specs, no nonsense quality and reliability both HW and SW, and outstanding customer service. Over my 6+ year of ownership, I had ZERO problem with my RX450. After 6 years of use, my trade-in value was ~55% of my original purchase price.

Most EVs, and Lucid in particular, are not even close to Lexus' quality and resale value. My 3-1/2 old AGT purchase price was about 3X that of hy Lexus 450RX. Now, 3-1/2 years later, if I were to sell/trade-in my AGT, I'd be lucky to get 30% of the original purchase price.

So, I agree Lexus specs about won't blow any socks off. But as a reliable car that delivers to what they claimed and no-drama ownership and service, Lexus is hard to beat1

And people know they’ll be around in a decade. That’s not a knock against Lucid. It’s simply the reality of comparing a start up to a well run legacy car company.

Let's not pre-judge Lexus. Yes, Lucid and Tesla have a ~20+% gap in their efficiency claims. But others (e.g., Germans, Rivian) don't seem to deviate as much. This is Lexus' first SUV offering. Let's see if they deliver what they spec'd.

300-mile range, if true, is decent. Your bladder most likely has a 200-mile range!

If you are on DCFC charging and drive 300+ miles daily, that might be inconvenient. For 95+ percent of the population, a true 300-mile range reliable EV SUV is plenty adequate.

I had a car with "300 mile" range. It sucked. I got 250 real-world miles, and had to keep an eye on it all the time.

I like the pedestrian warning sound! I wasn't sure at first but it's grown on me. You should hear the wierdness of the Mercedes EQS sounds:

Wow that is… lame.
My i7 has a mode where it plays some sort of orchestra music that changes as you accelerate and slow down and idle. It’s really cool but easy to turn off after it’s not so cool.

People will buy them because Lexus has earned their reputation for reliability, resale value, and excellent service. Cutting edge folks will prefer others like the Gravity, but there is a reason they sell so many boring-ass RXs too. I could almost guarantee that the ownership experience will be worlds better than many other “cooler” brands with better on-paper specs.

Depends how you define "better." Agree with what you are saying, but man, every Lexus I have ever driven is straight melatonin. As someone who loves to drive, it sucks any fun out of it. I'd rather deal with the let's say "personability" of these vehicles from these new EV companies than daily a Lexus or a Toyota.

But yeah unfortunately most people don't care about driving so I'm sure those looking for a 3 row EV or an electrified Lexus will buy this without considering anything else. And probably love it and tell the neighbor and continue the vicious cycle.

I'd probably still pick an EV9/Ioniq9 over this, though, given that those offer a similar value prop with WAY better charging.

Hah the Lexus dealer here is so toxic I would buy one out of state before I ever bought from them again!

Lexus is way too boring to making anything like the Gravity. They wouldn’t take the risk.
