Toyota is a safe purchase for many; it'll do well.
Their bZ is outselling the Ioniq 5.

Lol, fake engine sounds. Hilarious. I definitely want my car to sound like the struggling gas vehicles whose drivers think they can race me 😂 Going to stick with Lucid

I feel like this is a problem. Most people think because it's Toyota its a better product. Ioniq 5 is better in all categories (Range, Charging speeds etc). Instead of realizing that Toyota put out an inferior product, they will believe EVs are the problem and switch back to ICE.

Sadly, it will sell well. The Toyota and Lexus brands are strong as they have made a name in reliability. People who buy these cars rarely cross shop.

Still feels like they aren't trying to make (competitive) EVs but way better than their compliance EVs of the past. However, for my own opinion, kill it with fire. Those specs would have been bad 5 years ago. Terrible by today's standard. Not a bad looking at car though just a big yawn on the spec sheet but basically my feelings on Toyota/Lexus at this point. Reliability first and excitement dead last in their priorities.

Better than the weird loud space ship sound Lucid makes. I hate puting it in park at a drive though so I can hear them.

It looks like an even more squished and poorly executed version of the Gravity, but its basically a tarted up Toyota Highlander EV or Subaru Getaway. The two bread and butter ones are going to be great for 60K as a 3 row. This one not sure how its going to fit, I thought they made the new BZ and models much better charging? Hopefully they use a fake V8 from the older Lexus for fake sounds. Hyundai made a mistake by using a terrible sounding 4 cylinder for fake sounds. It doesn't really make sense when you drive an N, no turbo 4 ever has had 640hp and the power delivery like that...

Porsche does this with the new EV Cayenne.

Well, I had a Lexus 450 RX hybrid SUV for 6+ years until I traded it in for my Rivian R1S.

Lexus is not known for exciting cars that blow your socks off. Their value-proposition is solid engineering, deliver-to and exceed their specs, no nonsense quality and reliability both HW and SW, and outstanding customer service. Over my 6+ year of ownership, I had ZERO problem with my RX450. After 6 years of use, my trade-in value was ~55% of my original purchase price.

Most EVs, and Lucid in particular, are not even close to Lexus' quality and resale value. My 3-1/2 old AGT purchase price was about 3X that of hy Lexus 450RX. Now, 3-1/2 years later, if I were to sell/trade-in my AGT, I'd be lucky to get 30% of the original purchase price.

So, I agree Lexus specs about won't blow any socks off. But as a reliable car that delivers to what they claimed and no-drama ownership and service, Lexus is hard to beat1

People will buy them because Lexus has earned their reputation for reliability, resale value, and excellent service. Cutting edge folks will prefer others like the Gravity, but there is a reason they sell so many boring-ass RXs too. I could almost guarantee that the ownership experience will be worlds better than many other “cooler” brands with better on-paper specs.

Boring vehicles that let you in, have reliable cameras and you don't have to cross your fingers hoping for someone to answer the phone for a service appointment 2 months from now... I can see the appeal 🙂

The general lines are reminiscent of a Gravity, but it is not nearly as sleek. Up to 300 miles range? So really 250 miles of range. Two steps backwards.

What's this going to cost?

Also this looks like an SUV (boxy and squared out) so people will instantly associate the Lexus with an SUV. The Gravity on the other hand is a sleek looking car (I parked the gravity on the street and someone walked buy and asked "what car is that" and we exchanged pleasantries and he really liked the look of the gravity.

With optional rear wheel steering, it'll have 4-foot tighter turning circle than Gravity with optional rear steering
Ventilated second row seats
Power roof sunshade
SiriusXM by satellite instead of cell signal
Strong enough regen, but also has blended brakes

Every car has compromises, just choose the one that best fits your needs. We owned three Lexus before we went all-electric. All were great.

Let's not pre-judge Lexus. Yes, Lucid and Tesla have a ~20+% gap in their efficiency claims. But others (e.g., Germans, Rivian) don't seem to deviate as much. This is Lexus' first SUV offering. Let's see if they deliver what they spec'd.

300-mile range, if true, is decent. Your bladder most likely has a 200-mile range!

If you are on DCFC charging and drive 300+ miles daily, that might be inconvenient. For 95+ percent of the population, a true 300-mile range reliable EV SUV is plenty adequate.
