Lease End Return

Curious from anyone who's had a lease. How far out of the lease end did you start the return process? I am six months out of mine ending and the sales guy is telling me to start the process now. Also, there is no Lucid showroom where I live (they shipped the car to me). If you are in a similar position, did you have to drive it to a showroom or did they come pick it up? Thanks.
