I think if you’re purchasing the car, and you’re concerned, that’s the right move. I’ll definitely report back here on my Yosemite interior durability. But again, mines been flawless since delivery 4 months ago, 2500 miles in now after another family roadtrip, and multiple people, kids (and dogs!) in and out on a daily basis.

I would just caution people to not listen to reports of wear and tear on a demo car at a public vehicle display event. I mean, seriously? I suppose if you think you’ll treat your car that poorly - imagine how ‘gentle’ a public event on your car would be to your trim - then go with the leather. But in reality, the traffic will be way less, and you and your family will probably be way more careful and considerate than the randoms that were going thru that car ever two minutes.

I actually hear and see on this thread zero reports of an actual OWNER of Yosemite who is reporting wear and tear on their car. It’s all based off these public events where people were coming and going like a clown car. I guess if I was an Uber driver maybe I’d be concerned.

I just came across a video today of the Gravity. The showroom car had the Mojave Purluxe interior and was showing severe wear on the second row seat back, probably from people rubbing it getting into and out of the third row. There also appeared to be a couple of small punctures at the bottom of the back:

This reminds me of the show cars at the New York event some months ago. The display cars with the Tahoe leather interior showed no damage. There were three upholstery tears on display cars with the Yosemite Purluxe interior.

On a video with one of the Lucid interior design team, she described the Purluxe and mentioned that it had a color layer applied to the base matrix. It was not a "through color" such as you get with dyed leather.

Adding more evidence to my comment above. These public display/ shows and launch events - it’s open season on the trims and what boots and heels and crap people were getting into and out of the cars with. Anecdotes of who saw what once or heard once, that’s not very reliable.

Mohave can photograph as a light gray under camera lights. Here's another shot from the same video:

All Gavrities have a black steering wheel, but you can see how gray it looks here. Also, if you look at the door panel on the passenger door, it's clearly not Ojai. And the door armrest is the matte black plastic of the basic Mojave interior, not the brown wood of the Ojai interior.

I have had plenty of dirt to clean which has been pretty easy. Baby wipe and vacuum like normal. No stains as of yet. While we do set some basic rules for what the kids can and can’t do back there, I did make the dreaded ‘sure you can open a bag of goldfish back there’ mistake. That was not good. But i was pleasantly surprised that it was a pretty easy cleanup.

Ugh…goldfish crackers are the absolute worst. The mess they can leave behind.

But they showed up in new cars at a launch event? I don’t buy it.

Are we 100% sure it’s the same material or did the Gravity get an updated version of the material.

no clue...but as someone new to Lucid, having it carry the same name was enough to spook me
And, as @Gravitas said, it's only $1300 difference. Averaged over the life of my vehicle it seems worth it not to take the risk

I had a Gravity Dream Edition with Yosemite interior. I loved both the fabric color and the light wood trim. However, I tried to find out as much about the material as I could before ordering it . . . and what I found out was a bit worrisome. There were quite a few reports on this forum of tears and premature wear in the Purluxe from Air owners. And I followed every video and article I could find about the Gravity's interior design, which is where I saw the comment from one of the Lucid designers that the Purluxe had a color layer instead of a "through color" like the leather.

We've owned an Air Dream Edition for over four years and almost 50,0000 miles. It's leather interior still looks like new except for the desirable development of a bit of patina.

Knowing all this, I still went ahead with the Yosemite on our second Gravity because it was so beautiful in our black car, and I was still a bit on the fence about whether I liked the Tahoe color in our first Gravity. (Unfortunately, the Dream Editions give you only the choice of Tahoe or Yosemite. The Mojave that was first offered was rescinded for some reason.)

When we replaced the Gravity that had the Yosemite interior, I decided to return to the Tahoe leather we have in our other Gravity. I would have preferred the Ojai color had it been available in Dream Editions, but I just wanted to return to the assurance I had developed in the durability of Lucid's leathers -- an assurance that was missing with the Purluxe.

It was not a question of keeping it clean. That was quite easy. It was a question of durability driven both by the experience of other Air owners and by the damage I saw to the Yosemite interiors at the New York event and now see in this video I posted yesterday.

You might want to hear only from people who have the Yosemite interior. But I found the experience of other Lucid owners and the photos and videos they and others posted of actual damage to Purluxe materials to be relevant and helpful.

Here are a couple of pictures of Yosemite interiors posted from the New York display event by other members of this forum who attended the event. (The event also included cars with the Tahoe leather interior, but there was no damage noticed on them.)

Thanks for reposting this image. A very disturbing one to say the least. And from the OP, it sounds like it was 'a large man with keys in his back pocket' at the launch event. I don't know how a leather seat would have done in same situation, though this doesn't look like 'normal wear and tear' like the linear ones other Lucid Air Purluxe tear reports seem to be. This looks like a severe jagged edge puncture. I think if you have a concern about your kids doing something like this to your seats, you will probably want covers on your back seats (which I have), something I would have done for leather seats as well. For me and my wife in the front seats, we would be unlikely to subject these seats to that kind of assault. But only time will tell if they wear well or not.

This happened on my old Air after 18 months. The only thing I can assume that caused it was the small metal rivet on my jeans as I never have anything in my back pockets. The material is definitely not that durable in my opinion. I originally had the Yosemite interior on order but after this happened to my GT I update the order to the Tahoe leather

Yikes. And did they replace the seat under warranty? I read that was the case with several AIr owners.

It was raised to be dealt with on the next service but the Gravity came beforehand and was traded in like that.
