We were at the local Honda dealer today where they had a Prologue EV on display. The interior seating was comfortable for four adults, but the rear cargo area might have been hard pressed to hold luggage for four people on a road trip.

Given how long the hood was, I figured it might have some reasonable frunk space to help out.

So I opened to hood to check it out and found this:

It just brings home once again how far out in front of the rest of the industry Lucid is with space packaging. (This is a single-motor car, by the way.).

Built on the same GM EV platform as the Chevrolet Blazer and Acura ZDX. The Prologue is beating the Blazer handily in sales, with the ZDX about even with the Blazer.
Could be due to Honda's more refined styling than the Chevy, or the fact that CarPlay and Android Auto are included, or just Honda's better name.
A good-enough first EV for those who want to buy a familiar-feeling car from a familiar brand.

Our other vehicle is a Mach E. Yes, the frunk can barely hold my wife's purse, but it's a really good car otherwise--dare I say, better than our Air in some aspects (Blue Cruise, software, visibility).

The Mach E has some benefits for sure as you mentioned. I don't have blue cruise, the the software is usable and mostly stable. I hate the fact Ford removed navigation to a charger from the native NAV which would precondition. The ride is.... terrible. It can't hold a candle to the air. Can't touch it on range/efficiency either.

I am always surprised at how clean the innnards of EVs are. After owning EVs for 5 years, you'd think I'd be used to it by now.

Bingo. This is what prevents me from seriously considering most other brands of EV. I just can't stomach this sort of laziness in packaging. I'll take Lucid's quirks any day over lazy design and engineering.

when i ditched my model y, i leased a prologue. within 2 weeks, i decided i hated it, bought it outright so i could sell it, and ended up with a gravity. great decision for me. the prologue was my third honda and my wife is driving her second one. all of those pre-prologues were ice cars. evs need to be designed from the ground up, not cobbled together like the prologue, which was such a kludge.

According to Automotive News and several sources, they won't be made past this year. The customer speaks!

not sure what you mean...isn't it on the ultium platform, which means it's been built from the ground up? it's just not engineered as well as the lucid

Yes, Ultium-based, Equinox platform.

More of a mid-size competitor, in any event. We'll see how Lucid packs all the same "stuff" into a smaller package - they did phenomenally well with the Gravity, but the mid-size is going to be alot smaller. Smaller battery, smaller motor, but you still need to pack HVAC, suspension components and electronics into a smaller shell. I believe in Lucid's ingenuity, however where we see pockets for packing (rear wheel well spots for stuff) may very well be taken up by necessary internals.

Dream Ahead!

I also love what Lucid does with packaging - but is there a drawback? Are fender bender type repairs much more expensive when key internals have been moved into spaces that other brands "waste?"

The opposite, usually. Most manufacturers keep all their machinery in the front, which means a hit is very damaging. OTOH, Lucid keeps most of it on the interior of the car, in the floor, and in between/on the axles, maximizing use of space outside the front/rear so as to maximize storage.

Not sure it matters. Anything beyond a moderate hit ends up totalling a car no matter where the vehicle components are located.

A lot of people go into a Chevrolet dealer to look for a Blazer EV and drive out with an Equinox EV. Voice of experience. ;) Drove an Equinox EV for two years. Great car. Did not miss CarPlay one bit.
