Honda Drivers Now Have to Pay a Subscription to Open Their Garage Door

I remember a time when I could buy an airline ticket, book my seat and check my bag all for one price. They fed and watered us too...
 
Sounds like Honda has gotten into bed with Chamberlain, the parent company for a number of garage door brands and owner of the MyQ smart garage door system. Chamberlain are collectively scum, having worked hard to shut people out of their own garage door hardware. Not that I have strong feelings about them or anything. :rolleyes: Honda getting into bed with them is flipping the middle finger to their customer base.

What I don't understand is why anyone would pay a subscription for garage door opening, when you can just keep your car's garage door opener in the car. Something would have to be amazingly cool about MyQ for me to think it was worth even $1/month. And I've never heard anything particularly good about it. I certainly wouldn't pay Lucid a subscription fee for Homelink if they tried to charge one, I'd just keep my door opener in the car somewhere.
 
This is actually inaccurate. You can still option to have a rearview mirror with Homelink with a new Passport - you can see it for yourself on the vehicle configurator on Honda's website. From what I can see, there is simply an alternative method of using myQ for those that don't have the Homelink-enabled rearview mirror option. Honda used to include Homelink-enabled rearview mirrors standard with their upper trims for their vehicles but turned it into an option recently (I believe due to supply issues but I can't find a source for that), which is probably what purchasers of new Hondas who used to own a older vehicle are getting confused by.
