Honestly, unless you’re using XPel, I’d be most concerned about the PPF maker going out of business before the end of the warranty. So many have come and gone.

I had a 9 year old Mercedes GLE 63 that I just sold that I PPFed the front (bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors) and then Ceramic the whole car. Had car re-ceramic coated about 5 years ago (installer did it for free when I had my other car done at that time.) PPF has lasted great and while inspecting before sale last week, just saw 3 small dings in PPF that did not penetrate to paint.

curious, has anyone yet managed to arrange a Ceramic Pro PPF installation through their SA?

When the installer saw how much better the film worked on the second car, he replaced the film on the first Gravity -- and at no charge. We picked up that car yesterday, and it is now as distortion-free as the other car.

Xpel says don't expect it to last as long as the PPF on the car body, but the installer said it's easy to remove and replacement will cost only a few hundred dollars. Given how pock-marked the windshield has become on our Air due to living near sand quarries, I wish this new film had been available when we had the Air wrapped.

sorry if I missed this. was the Xpel film for the Gravity windshield a single piece? A local Ceramic Pro Elite shop is telling me they have to use two pieces to cover it and I believe they use something different.

It's a single piece, but it's only 40" and thus doesn't cover the entire length of the canopy back to the B-pillar break. You could add a second piece, but we didn't for two reasons: you don't have much risk of damage to the top of the canopy, and the termination of the film runs along the visor line and is virtually invisible from inside or outside the car.

The installer said Xpel is planning to produce a wider version of the film but has no idea of the introduction date.
 
Interesting tidbit. I took the newest Gravity to the PPF installer today to get it wrapped. They had 9 cars in process or queue, and 7 of them were EVs. They said a good chunk of their business is EVs, far out of proportion to the presence of EVs on local roads.

The ones with the worst depreciation are the ones owners want to protect the most? 🤣
Jokes aside, it's probably a function of EVs costing more, so people want to protect the investment.
 
...and can afford to spend the money for that protection!

do you have a picture of this by chance? I'm curious how it sits on the car. I'm talking to a local Xpel installer who would do it exactly the same way, just using the one 40" piece.

Sorry, no picture. The film is literally invisible in most situations -- no tint, no odd reflections, just a tiny bit of horizontal distortion from the inside in very limited conditions. The termination line runs about midway across the sun visors and cannot be detected from inside the car and barely so from the outside. In fact, when I clean the windshield I can't even tell if I've gone up to the termination line until I feel it with my fingers.

Nice - that will turn heads!

Sometime I wish the Gravity stood out more, like the Air, to help Lucid become a household name. You can’t help but look at an Air driving by (but I do understand their design constraints for space and efficiency).

Has anyone used this XPEL product on their Gravity?
IC-Windshield Tint-XRPLUS
Windshield Tint - XRPLUS (70%)

I did and am getting glare and halos, mostly at night. The installer tells me this is a known issue on Gravity (I believe someone upthread mentioned similar with PPF but not sure about tint). Debating whether to simply have it removed or for them to try again.

Installer says he recommends not trying again because he think it will be same result.

I am bummed to think it won’t work because with my (glass canopy) Air in the Texas summer the cabin took forever to cool down if I didn’t pre-climatize via the app - even with XPEL tint.

Anytime you add PPF/tint to the windshield itself you run the risk of seeing artifacts.

I have XPel XR plus across entire vehicle with windshield and roof, 70% except front two windows which are 35%. No Halos.
