Gravity OEM Wheels without the Aero Covers?

I tried looking around the forum to see if there was anything attempted here. Curious has anyone taken the aero covers off the OEM 20/21 or 21/22 wheels to see how they look?

The 21/22 wheelset is easy, they clip in and out. The 20/21 set has the aero covers bolted in from the back side, requiring the wheels to be removed to take them off.

I had the covers on and it looked fine. Wanted to see how it look when them off so removed the inserts and got the center cap package. I’ll put the aero clips back in at some point because I’m a clean freak. Washing the vehicle, then going for a short drive, the wheels are covered in brake dust. At least with the covers on, the brake dust is contained.

Our Gravity with 21/22" wheels was delivered without the aero caps installed. I had the Service Center install them before we left. The wheels look good either way, imo.

However, those exposed massive brakes and calipers look so damn sharp that it almost seems a shame to hide them. Since we found very little difference in range when we did a controlled test of our Gravity Dream with 21/22" aero wheels against our Gravity Dream with 22/23" open-face wheels, I wouldn't install aero caps on those bigger wheels even if they were available.

In light of that test, I've considered taking the aero caps off the mid-size wheels. But, as @FirstLucidFL noted, they do keep things down there a bit cleaner, and they really do look pretty good.

One note, though. The snap-on caps on the mid-size wheels do not always stay firmly seated. On a service visit our mobile tech noticed that a couple of them were starting to work their way off. So if you use them, keep an eye on them when you check the tire pressure.

I’m with you on that. I picked up my GT last Monday and had the aero wheel covers removed from my 21/22” set up before I drove off. Had the service guy also install the black lug nut covers and black ‘LUCID’ center caps. Not much brake dust yet from using standard Regen.

We use high regen and almost never engage the friction brakes. There is zero brake dust and even surprisingly little road grime acccumulation on the large open wheels.

I had the 20/21 aero covers removed and love how they look. Sportier and you can actually see the platinum brake calipers, whereas the aero covers completely covered them.
