Gravity noise at high speeds

Got the car back yesterday. Drive is as good as I remember. Missed it for sure !

  1. The noise is gone. Yay. Smooth.
  2. AC is working. Kind of. What makes it work consistently for me is setting the temp up (72/74) and then the front climate to “Auto”
  3. Pre-heat / remote heat is working. So that’s a plus
  4. NFC console replacement is working so far. Also detects the fob button presses now (was not the case last time it was replaced).
  5. Hope to get the CS query resolved soon.

I am not a gravity owner yet, but am getting one for my wife soon. I had a model S plaid with the same issue. Sounds like a jet taking off, usually on more lengthy drives or just after. I think the gravity has a noise cancelling system like the model S. It just begins a gradual increasing sound as a defect in the noise cancelling system. It is coming from the speakers. A good way to test is to roll down the window an inch or so, as that deactivates the noise cancelling system, and see if it goes away. Perhaps it could be mechanical, but this was my problem, and recalibration of the system resolved the issue.
 
The Lucid Gravity does not have a "noise cancelling" feature.

This seemed like the right place to post this.

At pickup the frunk was noticeably misaligned and was noted. It suffers the same have to "open" it twice to get it to lift. I was waiting to make an appointment for that before I got it on the road some.

Well today, when getting it on the highway above 60 mph and the road goes left, and one turns the wheel to follow it, there is this low frequency droning noise. There is a slight noise when going to the right, but the left direction is quite loud. Going straight is quiet.

There doesn't seem to be any vibration. My wife recorded the sound.

What does the hive mind here think this sounds like? Misaligned frunk and wind, tires, wheel alignment, bearings or something else?

Now I'll make that service appointment. :)

I'll respond to myself, since that is what I do best.

I'm guessing my highway speeds humming, droning noise when the steering wheel is turned left is a wheel bearing on the right side, given the symptoms.

Earliest appointment in SJ is a month out. That's actually a little better than I expected. Guess I've been "pre-conditioned" for that. ;)

Hopefully the wheel won't fall off in the interim.
 
Hey sorry I haven’t commented for awhile. I have Tysons Corner Lucid Service Center Fatigue. Ever since the change in personnel back in September the service has been subpar to non existent. I’m still having issues with the Gravity and a few more new ones (driver door handle opens and closes constantly while driving, traction control comes on during left hand turns, periodically, a wobbling motion when going over 30 that gets more noticeable with speed, and a few more items I have need documenting). With running two businesses and some very personal loses I simply do not have the time to rundown the service personnel at Tysons Corner Service Center. I have had numerous calls, emails and text messages go unanswered. On top of the snow storm we just had, I don’t have the time or energy. Luckily my commute is less than 10 minutes a day. Anymore than that and I wouldn’t feel confident in driving the Gravity GT. I would just have it towed to the service center but not having an all wheel vehicle is not an option at the moment with the snow and ice we currently have. I’ll try and post some updates when I get more time. If anyone has a direct number to the head of customer service for Lucid Corporate I would greatly appreciate it if you could send it to me. I’ve tried contacting the head of the Tysons Corner Team and those messages and calls went unanswered.

Update from the SC on my gravity today - They are replacing the front drive unit.

That was my hunch when I first heard it, but the vibration theory was also compelling.

I’ve had the same issue since I picked up my Gravity GT. The Tysons Corner Service Center couldn’t replicate it. I uploaded several videos for them. They said the traffic conditions where they were driving would not allow for them to go 55+. I let them know it was still there after my last service appointment. The next service appointment they stated the changed a part in the front. Since the the noise is still there and now when driving 29-45 mph there is a high pitched whistling noise coming from the front. I have uploaded several videos to a YouTube Channel for the Service Team but in my next service visit they said they could not replicate. I mentioned this forum and they said they would look into it. I also suggested speaking with the service supervisor and having him go on a ride along as I was 100% certain I could replicate the is. That was the last week of November. Aaron said they had no appointments for the next two weeks and he couldn’t schedule any after that. To date no one from Tysons Corner has reached out, even though I have called, texted and emailed. Hopefully when the snow melts here I can go drop it off and share what they found with yours. Thanks for your post.
 
It's pretty clear the Tysons SC is overwhelmed. I have been working with them since delivery (Late Oct) to diagnose and fix a rear wheel balance issue (23"). They tried to balance the wheels (4) and made it worse. Took the car to two different tire shops and they determined that the rear wheels could not be balanced completely. The only way I have gotten a confirmed appointment was to actually goto the SC and talk directly to the service manager. Scheduled for 2/9/26. We shall see what happens this time. My suspicion is a defective left rear wheel/tire.
Ron is the lead mechanic and says he has been working 6 days a week and 12+ hour days since late summer. The Gravity is so different from the Air that the learning curve is extreme, but there getting there.
 
Did get the 3.4.1 update last night over WiFi. No issues. Of course can't get the car out of the garage until I get rid of a 2' wall of ice at the end of the driveway! Temps here VA west of DC are still below freezing. Maybe by Wed....

I have the same problem…
Same deep frequency rumbling noise…

Ok. I just did a 200 mile ride.

The loud booming noise is unbearable. It’s like someone has started a microphone feedback sound on a subwoofer. Starts at around 71/72 mph and I tracked it consistently to around 82. Tails off after that.

I am going to take it to the SC once I’m back. Ugh. I got a headache sitting inside the car.

Yesterday was the first time I took a long freeway trip in my new Gravity and had an opportunity to go above 75mph. I think it also coinsided with particular speed and/or direction of the head wind on that stretch of the road. There was a sudden noise, like a wind tunnel or an airplane takeoff experience, rumbling, deep whining sound, increasing with speed and very unnerving.
Slowing down below 75mph the noise disappears, speeding up above 75mph it comes back again. I looked at ride height, it was automatic and currently set to Low, ride mode was default Smooth. I was curious if ride height had an effect on noise, so I set it manually to Standard and the noise appeared to have reduced, but not gone away. The wind was also changing and road was going up and down, so noise change might not have been related to me changing the ride height. The noise was so loud and unnerving that I decided to stay below 75mph, plus the traffic conditions have changed such that I couldn't go faster anyway for much longer.
It feels like some panel in the front or below is vibrating at a certain resonance when the right wind condition is met. I would definitely want this fixed, but I have more immediate issues with the car software that puts this issue on a backburner for now, unless I'm forced to bring it to SC, then I will add it to the laundry list.
Anyone experienced the same noise in similar conditions?

that's exactly what I had. when i took it to the service center they removed something and did some tweaks...it improved significantly...but every now and then, i can hear it around 75 mph

Concern: Client states that while driving the vehicle at 75 mph he hears a loud noise. Noise is still present when client is not applying pressure to the
accelerator, check and advise. Please check previous WO-192127 and advise.
Cause: Caused potentially caused b y lower battery shear plate bolts were slightly under torqued and certain trims not engagded into the fender. The
inspection was conducted by process of elimination involving multiple front end component removal. The could've caused a low frequency abnormal
sound experienced.

Corrections: Performed initial test drive (M.O. 1617 M.I. 1637). Unable t o replicate condition. Spoke with the client in the evening to gather any
additional information. Concern was described as a low pitch rumbling noise that sounded like another vehicle coming up behind the client's was making
the noise. Similar to a vehicle with a loud exhaust passing by. Concern typically happened around 50-60% of the time on longer road trips (i.e. service
center to Orlando, Orlando to Jacksonville), however, was only present above 75pmh and was more evident at 80+ mph. Sometimes it was more
prevalent after the vehicle sat for a few days (3-4). Test drove the vehicle the following day (M.O. 1637 M.I. 1679) and the noise was still not replicated.
Advised the client that evening the vehicle would sit from Friday until Monday morning in a n attempt to replicate the sound being experienced based on
sitting idle. Assured the client that tire road force would also be checked before the vehicle left the service facility.
Vehicle was test driven again Monday morning (M.O. 1679 M.I. 1722) with another technician and the service manager present. After about 10 miles into
the road trip the noise was reproduced. Attempted t o narrow down the source during the test drive. Changing climate settings between A/C, heater, and
off made no change. Ride height had no affect. Vehicle did not seem to respond to differences in acceleration or regenerative braking. Noise would only
consistently dissipate under 75mph. Created case 01030059 for review.

Started inspection of lower panels and to gain access for instaling chassis ears onto the vehicle. Additionaly removed the frunk tub Initialy found that
the lower battery shear plate bolts were slightly under torqued. After removal installed chassis ears onto the following items FDU, front subframe, A C
compressor bracket. Test drove vehicle again (M.O. 1722 M.I. 1764) with the aid of a service assistant. Unable to replicate the condition again. Brought
vehicle back to service facility and reinstalled all lower shielding following the proper torque spec and sequence. Test drove vehicle again (M.O. 1764
M.I. 1807) with only the frunk tub and surrounding panels removed aided by another technician. Concern was not present again. Re-installed frunk trim
and surrounding panels. Test drove with service manager (MO. 1807 M.I. 1849). During this road test noted early in the trip that the noise appeared one
time, however, the duration was not a s long and throughout the trip the concern would occur a handful of times for a few seconds followed by u p to 5-10
minutes of silence.
Re-examined the gap filler trim between the headlights and the fenders. Noted that the trim had additional pockets that were not engaged onto the
fender. Possible these trim pieces were receiving turbulent air and acting similar to a musical instrument producing an audible tone under the right
conditions.
Road force was then checked on the RF (21lbs) and LF (20lbs) as requested. At this time the client requested no additional mileage be added to the
vehicle.
Last Test drive performed, unable to recreate concern.

Hi, did you finally get the balancing issue addressed? What were the symptoms, would it wobble? Thanks!
 
mine is in again for the left turn of the wheel over 60 MPH droning noise. took it out with a technician and luckily(?) the noise was quite present. one barely needs to move the wheel to the left to make it happen. last time they replaced the wheel bearings on the left side and that didn't help (I urged them to look at the right this time). if they figure it out this go around I'll make a post here.
