Ok this isn’t as scientific as Tom Moloughney but I did a round trip from Providence RI to Manchester NH to Tycoon pinball arcade there (to play Dune pinball 🤘) and back, temps 65F, 20/21” wheels, speeds 65-75mph, really mostly 71mph and got 3.26 mi/kWh translating to 394 miles range on 121kw usable battery. So there was definitely something wrong with Tom’s car, and possibly Notch EVs, likely rear drive unit, as my car is a 7 seater with 1067HP so should NOT do better than their vehicles! That total trip range is from before, my efficiency is less there because my commute to work has very steep high speed on-ramps

This is good to hear. This describes most of my New England trips as well, at least in terms of speed, and occurring in the daytime. There's probably a few percent bump due to drafting other cars, whether accidentally or purposefully, also.

I think Tom's test needs repeating with a different car and in the daytime (better temps) and avoiding the heating system.

Notch will hopefully retest at some point at higher temps and limited heat pump use. A better test is yours, destination to destination, including some city or inter-town driving.

Thanks for posting.

Is your whole commute a high-speed steep onramp? Color me skeptical that a couple of on ramps are worth a quarter of a mile per kWh. Now, there are probably plenty of other variables at play, but onramps? Are they uphill both ways?

Yeah, Notch's latest makes me wonder if his car also has a RDU problem and it just hasn't triggered yet. Hard to say though because his "retest" changed some variables.

I take a different route home than to work due to a bridge being under construction on the way back so the amount of uphill acceleration, often around corners, is never offset by the downhill regen. And there’s often lots of stop and go traffic which is worse for efficiency because of the power used to get the car moving from a complete stop repeatedly. So around town real world I’m getting 2.6-2.7, highway is what you see above, the only regen times were one episode of traffic and toll booths, otherwise smooth sailing until last 10 minutes of destination and then about 10 minutes of 35mph home. And yes the on ramp and off ramp intake to work are both uphill, the one to merge back onto the highway is a very short downhill one so you’ve gotta get up to speed very quickly, and then the off ramp to get home is also uphill, no kidding.
