Hey folks - so I took my Uniden R8 radar detector from the Air to the Gravity and connected to the front USB-C ports and the thing won't even turn on on either one of the two ports. I'm at a loss as to what maybe going on. My phone initiates charging just fine. Thoughts?

I believe my R8 also didn't work using the Amazon USB-C cable with the front console USB-C ports...though I only tried it once and it was very briefly right after getting the car. I didn't think much of it because I actually chose to plug it into the A/C outlet on the back of the center console so the cord wasn't running out of the top of the console (instead, it's running between the passenger seat and console up to the detector which is in the very narrow tint cutout--it's a tight fit but you can find the sweet spot in the cutout without it interfering too much with the passenger side sun visor).
 
I'm trying endlessly with ordering different usb-c to usb-c cables for that carlinkit android box and it's just not working. I get the intermittent blue and white flashing lights. Meanwhile hoping that 12V to usb -c wire will at least make the Uniden R8 radar detector to work
 
Phone charging randomly doesn't work for me with the center console ports in my Gravity, with this message randomly popping up from time to time https://lucidowners.com/threads/usb...-lucid-mobile-app-on-brand-new-gravity.13564/. However, my latest finding is that if I switch the cable to the rear charging ports next to the folding tables, my phone starts charging. Have you tried those? I don't think your problem is the cable.
 
Any solution here? I tried the following cables for my uniden (which worked fine in my air) but to no avail in the gravity:

I can't be the only one with a gravity trying to use a normal ole radar detector.

I switched to a Raydenso from my Uniden and was surprised at how much better it is. Literally everything about it is better and it runs perfectly on normal USB c and even integrates with CarPlay. It’s amazing actually.

To keep a Uniden though you can use a USB c hardwire kit.

I have my Uniden R8 plugged into the standard plug outlet below the 2nd row console screen (with a USB-C power brick and USB-C cable from amazon...I run the wire between the center console and the passenger seat. I actually didn't want it plugged into the center console since there's no clean way for the glass to shut and the wire to run out of it.

Thanks. This might be a solution for now. Do we know why the usb-c won't work for this use case? I haven't checked if it will work with a carlinkit or other devices besides a phone.
 
Adding to my comment above:

At the end of this tutorial they list various pre-made cables for sale. You have to know the voltage and plug type your device needs. That is where I bought my cable.

There are also several types for sale on Amazon, but I can't vouch for them. On the other hand, Adafruit (I have no relationship with them) is a place inhabited by geeks (like myself) and I trust that they understand the technology.

Is there an adapter anywhere that has USB male/female? This was not something I had to expect to trouble shoot lol.
 
Yes. Go to amazon and type in USB A or USB C male to female, depending on waht you need. I travel with lots of these.

Sorry for being dense but can you link to a version that is a trigger cable?
 
Here is my exact order for an Adafruit type 5968 trigger cable that I use in my Air. I think the model number I gave previosuly (and just deleted) was for a different voltage input. Make sure you order for the output voltage you need and that the output plug is compatible (or get a plug adapter).

Just go to Adfruit's website and search under model number 5968. Then pick your output voltage. The E-mark mentioned is the negotiating chip that makes it work.

Again, Amazon may also sell these things, but I trust a female geek-run business.

I looked on Amazon using the term USB C PD trigger cable, and found items like at the link below that had multiple size output plugs. The most important thing you need to specify is the voltage that your device needs.

This is what you need and what I have for the Uniden R8. It goes from the RJ11 post to USB in center console, I just ran it under the glass cockpit and tuck the excess cable into where the center console meets the dashboard, it actually fits in there fine. I don’t usually close my center console like @DrZorro so if you do that would pinch it like he says. Also here’s a pic of where I put the detector. My only issue is the car does seem to generate a Ka band itself sometimes in the high 33-34ghz band so I’ve been getting a lot of false alerts but you can use the advanced settings to exclude those bands.
