Ever Wonder What a Costco Tire Install Looks Like for an Air?

That’s what it looks like in SoCal today. Because Costco currently has a corporate memo stating “do not install tires on Lucid vehicles” due to inadequate equipment (hydraulic lifts) to properly support the cars. If you have had them installed recently, they hooked you up! These were purchased off Costco.com and direct ship to them. Nothing on the web stopped me from ordering.

They refused to install mine today and moving forward. That may change in the future but I can’t imagine tire centers fixing their lifts for one car brand (salesperson said it’s isolated to Lucid).

Just a heads up for those who are considering ordering from them - call your local Costco first!

I have a Lucid service appt tomorrow that was already booked. They are throwing them on for me.

Yes they are 21”s. Yes they are HL. Yes the load rating is correct. I’m done with Pirrell

I just checked with Costco this Sunday, they said they can install it and asked me to order the tires. Lucky i didnt place an order yet. Will check with them again this weekend (This is in Tampa Fl, 19inch)

Yeah call for sure. The Costco employee didn’t know if it applied nationwide for certain centers or was a recent blanket statement to stop for all sites.

I just ordered 20" Michelin tires today from Costco. Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to make a phone call tomorrow.

Why didn’t you use Americas Tire? They can order and install. If Costco’s tire prices were cheaper, AT will price match.

I checked the Costco website, and they do have a vague general disclaimer under Installation Package that said, "Not available for all vehicles and/or tires. See Tire Sales desk for details." But you have to go into the small print and click on the tiny "i" icon to get to it.

I can make no sense of this. Yes, the Lucid is heavy for a sedan, but it's lighter and smaller than many of the SUV's and pickup trucks that I'm pretty sure they put on their lifts day in and day out.

I wonder if this is really about needing to use rubber pucks between the lift and Lucid's designated lift points. I once had a Tire Choice that had changed tires on our Tesla Model S's and our Lucid Airs more than once suddenly refuse to change tires on the Air until I brought in a set of pucks I had to order from Amazon because they said they did not have the pucks a Lucid required. Because of the ubiquity of Teslas these days, Tire Choice kept pucks on hand for Teslas, claiming they had special slots on them that aligned with receivers on the Tesla underbody. I called Lucid to try to order Lucid pucks through them, but they said there were no such things as specialized pucks and that standard hockey pucks would work just fine. I ordered a set from Amazon, and bingo . . . they worked just fine.

American and Discount only offer Pirelli for the 21”. I have had six Pirelli tires now that have developed sidewall bubbles. Tire certificate or not, I’m done with them. Just my experience.

Costco finally offered Michelins in 21s.

I think this may be it. The heavier vehicle and the clearance. Because there was a large truck in there at the time I was there and the arms of the lift for that were pretty thick. Probably unable to slide under the low Air.

I know there have been numerous reports of sidewall bubbles with the Pirelli LM1 tires, and it's been one of those mysteries to me. We're on our third set of Pirelli 21" tires since we got our first Air almost four years ago. But the only reason I've had to change them was tread wear (solely the fault of my heavy right foot) and a puncture from running over a piece of metal on the highway from a nearby construction site. Nary a sign of a sidewall bulge. Florida roads are not too pothole prone, but I have hit a few . . . and more than one of them at a pretty good clip.

I wonder what Lucid knows about this and why, I assume, they're comfortable with staying with Pirelli for the largest Gravity wheels -- on a heavier vehicle with a similar low tire aspect ratio.

Costco in Scottsdale has told me twice that they couldn't do Lucid.
I have had tires replaced at our local DT, and I always thought they're a bit on the hurried side.
Off topic: OTOH, my son had a terrible experience at Costco Pentagon City where they told him verbally to change out all the lugs, but did not document in the write-up. Son went to the dealership and they said it was Costco's overtorqueing, damaging all lugs.
