Just got back from my local EA charger, which was free and plug&play for three years.
I stopped going a few months ago when they tried to charge me. This time nothing happened when I plugged except for the annoying spinning wheel icon- in so I went home to get the sign in.
Using my home laptop I saw it had an expired CC so I tried to update. You can't update on line, you must use the app. That took about an hour, because the entry windows are hidden by the hidden keyboard. I finally (wearing 3 pair of glasses) found a tiny dot that reveals the entry boxes, but then they are immediately hidden by the keyboard when you start to enter data.
Also,
Lucid is still not listed as one of the car options. Every other car manufacturer is listed, but not Lucid.
I had to put "other" and "other" for make and model. This is the same as it was 3 years ago. EA has no incentive to improve...
Remember that EA is Volkswagen Group's PUNISHMENT for cheating on the EPA emissions test.
baden baden or just plain bad Germans.
"Volkswagen will also pay $2.7 billion for environmental mitigation and another $2 billion for clean-emissions infrastructure. Toward that end, Volkswagen formed a U.S. subsidiary called Electrify America, LLC., based in Reston, Virginia, that will manage the $2 billion brand-neutral zero-emission vehicle infrastructure programs and marketing campaigns for the next ten years. The group will get four installments of $500 million, at 2+1⁄2-year intervals, subject to California Air Resources Board and U.S. EPA approval. Volkswagen planned to install hundreds of chargers with 50, 150 and even some ultra-fast 320 kW charge rate, beginning in California in 2017. Competing charge networks (and automakers) saw the effort as controversial. In August 2018, Electrify America launched the first national media advertising campaign to promote electric vehicles; it featured the Chevy Bolt, with other EVs in cameo roles."
I do not know know why Lucid chose to partner with them ... (follow the money?)
I checked with Lucid Motors to make sure I had the wallet and the CC info was correct, then went back out to try again.
No joy.
It was definitely not plug and play.
I had to enter my CC and wait... then they charged me 57 cents / kWh. I stopped when I saw it was actually charging. It's not a discount as had been said, so I have no reason to ever go to EA again. Then I could not release the cable...that took me 5 minutes trying to twist and bend that thick cable (as Lucid has place the port where no cable can easily reach) in the cold and windy Polar Vortex that Canada has sent as revenge for the tariffs.
Overall = No Stars.
Now the good news is New Jersey has ripped-out all the old chargers and partnered with a new company that is very simple to use. They have/are installing them at all the rest stops along the pike. I've used them and they are nice, easy, easy to find. About 57 cents / kWh.
Applegreen Electric
I'm now going to try EVgo... they have a bank of DC fast chargers right as you get over the bridge in Ocean City, NJ. They also have DC fast chargers at the rest stop on the ACE. Everyone is getting hip to EVs except Electrocute Americans (those Germans ... can't turn your back on 'em).
