Effect of Tire/Wheel Choice on Gravity Range

I am told you are someone who likes to drive in the Sprint mode.

When am I going to see your vehicle on 295/315 tire? Match handling and braking to speed.

Drive a 7 seat Porsche that was never made…

That would be a bit much even for me. 🙃

I am happy to do the offset math for you, I am already running 295 front Porsche spec tire.

I am very curious to find out too!
After installing new wheels next week, I'll drive as normal (commute, errands, whatever) from 100% to ~10%, and report back.
Long road trips should be even more interesting. But that's for later.

I have very light 21inch Magnesium wheels (Front 29.3lb, Rear 29.6lb) with built-in/non-removable "Aero" parts.

how much was the weight change between the magnesium and stock wheels?

4-8# per wheel.
Woah, I've heard about how much unsprung mass can affect ride and handling, and I can't wait to see the results!

My Gravity came with 22/23inch wheels. I believe they weigh ~39-40lb (someone else keep me honest).
Then I went with custom 22inch Aluminum wheels (same aero design as above); they're ~50lb (Stock + 10/11lb)!!!
The heavy Aluminum wheels look great, but ride comfort and handling definitely suffers.
Finally decided to go with much lighter custom 21inch Magnesium wheels (Stock – 10lb or Current Custom Aluminum – 20lb).

Here to keep you honest…stock wheels are 34-38# front to back regardless of size (inserts included) which was done to make suspension tuning easier for a single mass, essentially.

Good to know. Thought that the 22/23 were 2-4lb heavier.

Super interesting to see how even 10 lbs per corner makes such a noticeable change.
With companies like HRE making carbon fiber + forged aluminum center wheels, I'm genuinely curious to see how much the drastic drop in unsprung mass would then feel

I am on 22x10 31# flow forged wheels and it rides nice and smooth in Snooze mode, good bit bumpier in Sprint. I swapped them out so fast I don’t remember how base small wheel felt. Had a mid size loaner for a week and maybe it was a touch softer but when I hit the brakes I thought I was going to slide into a police cruiser at 30mph…nope, not using stock tires no more.

I cannot find the post now, but a while back we had to have a new tire mounted on the 23" rear wheel of our Gravity. I weighed the wheel while the tire was off. I can't remember the exact weight, but I'm pretty sure it was over 40 pounds . . . which shocked me.

Well, my small wheel measurements are mine, everything else is a Lucid source who quoted small wheel for me correctly.

They are on TireRack

I suspect Pirelli had to pull that rear tire from the market for safety reasons: people were dropping dead when they saw the price.
My bad
I stand corrected on the A/S's but not exactly a 3PMSF rated tire...and wow only 106/107 treadware rating; you be spending that price often!

106/107 is a weight rating…Gravity max requires 2100lb per corner, it’s within spec.

OIC

Confusing it w/ UTQG rating which quantifies treadlife

Small (Hankook) vs. medium (Michelin Primacy Tour) wheels/tires make a noticeable ride quality difference.

My Gravity is in the shop and I lucked out with a loaner Gravity. After five minutes riding in the loaner, my daughter asked, “Why does this Gravity feel heavier? I like ours better.“ After thinking for a moment, I translated that to a harsher ride and responded, “I think it may be the tires.”

After we got to our destination, I checked the tires and, sure enough, the wheels/tires were different. The loaner had the medium wheels while ours had the small wheels (both have the dynamic handling package). I purposely chose the small wheels for range, comfort, noise, pothole damage resistance, and replacement cost.

I was quite surprised my daughter noticed enough of a ride quality difference to ask about it. I barely noticed - only after she pointed it out.

Happen to glance at tire pressure?
