Driver Seat Settings

New owner here, coming from a TSLA M3.

Any thoughts on the best settings for the driver's seat? I'm really having trouble getting comfortable... feels like I'm constantly messing with the controls to find the optimal setting.

The M3 rides higher, so I think part of the issue is that I'm not used to sitting so low. But also when I go low I feel myself leaning forward, which puts strain on my upper back...

I'm pretty average height (5'10'') and weight, so feels like I should be able to dial this in, but to date it's just not working for me.

What vehicle do you have? What seats do you have? The 20 way seats in my AGT are terrific.

I recently got an Air Touring with the 14-way seats and my previous car is a Model 3, and I am in inch shorter than you. On the Model 3, I found a higher seat height to be most comfortable. On the Air, that's where I started. But with the seat high, if you want an unobstructed view of the cockpit display through the steering wheel, the steering wheel is too high and I can't hold it from the bottom while resting my elbows on the arms rests on both sides. So I found my comfortable settings by first lowering the seat to the lowest height, adjusting the position to move forward just enough for me to reach the brake and accelerator pedals comfortably, then adjusted the steering wheel down just enough so I can hold it from the bottom with arms resting, and then adjusted the back rest and thigh support. With these tweaks, I find the Air to be more comfortable than the 3, recently did 300 miles in a day and felt the positive difference.

I also came from a Model 3 in February and yeah the biggest thing for me was finding the right combo of steering wheel height that doesn't obstruct the cockpit screen but also doesnt make the wheel too high so i feel like I'm reaching up to grab it. As is, I have to look under the top part of the wheel to fully see everything. If I raise the seat itself higher it exacerbates the problem of viewing the screen effectively. So I've gone with lower seat, slightly higher than I'd like wheel.

Still worth it as the car is better in nearly every way over the Model 3.

I am also 5'10" and came from a Model 3, but I found the Air seating position to be higher than I would like, even at its lowest setting.

For me personally, I aim to have the seat cushion angled back slightly, so my knees are higher than my hips, and then recline the seat just enough that I don't feel scrunched up. I don't use any lumbar support. I have had both the 12-way and the 20-way seats in my two Airs, and used this basic formula for both.

I agree with @Miami_Lucid_Man that there is a tradeoff between seeing the top of the screen and having the steering wheel too high for comfort.

Yeah. In fact most of the time in typical casual driving I’m grabbing the lower flat portion of the wheel to keep the car on the road.

Appreciate the feedback, glad I'm not the only one going through this. I should have noted, it's an AT with 14-way seats.

100% agree that the M3 seat is higher, I think part of the issue is that I've been accustomed to that. I'm going to try the suggestion around a lower seat height and go from there. I also agree with the suggestion of using the bottom of the steering wheel, I've found that to be much more intuitive (particularly when the seat is lower). I will give that a try.

I also found that starting at the low end, it was a path to the comfort. I was struggling to find. I ended up in settings, much like that first response who suggested it.

I don’t mind having the very top of the screen obscured by the top of the steering wheel, so long as I can see the bottom of the upper speed display when it’s in cruise control; I can usually also either see the cruise speed setting to the right of that, or a tiny dip of the head reveals it. That works for me.

The biggest suggestion I would have for Lucid is that the steering wheel should extend further, i.e. closer to the driver and seat. That would resolve many of the common issues around being able to hold the wheel while also resting your elbows.

Do you have the seat upgrade? We traded our S for the AGT & the seat is not an issue for us.
