There's a lot of jargon and numbers in this CATL commentary about the state of solid-state batteries. The point seems to be that solid-state batteries will only be in high-end vehicles for a number of years.

I would love to see how the sodium ion batteries end up. Not saying to abandon solid state but wonder if the Na based could be a happy medium until the true solid state is ready for mass production

Sodium ion is shipping in low end Chinese cars, and are looking like a good solution for grid scale energy storage. Energy density is lower than LFP and NMC lithium.

Agreed. That’s why I’m wondering if the opportunity is there to develop that tech while reducing Lithium requirements and also biding time for solid state to get to truly solid.

Battery companies are developing both sodium-ion chemistry and solid state electrolytes at the same time. They have different strengths, different preferred applications, and are both starting to arrive.

This comment from CATL doesn't surprise me. Battery innovation has been simultaneously impressive and very slow. I think it's best to buy an EV based on what's on the market today, and not worry about what (or when) cool new technology will be next.

Yeah, constantly stressing about the next big thing means never making a decision. At some point, it's best to just accept what's available at the moment and go for it

It’s why I leased my EV9 since the technology is rapidly changing especially for batteries. In 2 years, who knows what we could see.

Ditto for my Gravity. I’m sure the 2029’s will have all kinds of cool new features.

Or Lucid may be bankrupt. Either way, not my problem!

I’m with you. For me, I leased this go around as it is my first EV. I’m all in on EV now with this experience so I just need to wait for this lease before I try to get a gravity.

Once you've become used to driving an EV, it's very difficult to go back to gas.
