Buying a 2022 GT with only 10K miles. It’s in great condition.

1. Picking it up this weekend: what to ask between now and then and what to check in person.
2. 4 year warranty expires in July. And My closest full service center is in Atlanta(which is 5 hours away). Really worried about post warranty issues. Am I making the right decision buying one which will be out of warranty soon. I have read many articles saying they don’t have any issues and a few threads complaining about expensive repairs post warranty.

I am a long term Tesla owner and got very used to Model S. We still have Model X.

Thanks in advance and looking for some reassurance.

Don't do it. It will be very expensive and inconvenient to maintain. A 10 hour round trip for service, or the cost of having it towed both ways would be crushing to me.

I'll echo what L-Dude said. I have one under warranty right now...and if you look on the forums, some people adore their cars..some people struggle.

The main difference is if you have issues. If you have small issues (or none at all), they are fixed easily. If you have larger issues, they are never fixed and you just learn to live with them (we are probably not the majority though). So I don't think it's a 50/50 gamble but if you happen to have a large issue, it'll be a back breaker; it's already frustrating under warranty and it would be that much more horrible outside warranty.

Check the service history if you can (i think you can even request it from lucid if they're feeling nice enough) and if it's just gone for routine maintenance, it's a calculated gamble..if it's gone in more than 3-5 times in the past 3 years, i'd say avoid.

My 2022 Air GT has been trouble free ( except for a coolant bracket or something early on) and has 30 K miles
Remember the Battery , motors, powertrain have an 8 yr or 100K warranty!

I think the biggest issue is the distance from a service center. That is a huge hurdle for an out-of-warranty car IMO.

Right, there are a subset of things that can be handled by mobile tech which will make it more convenient for you, but if the car develops repeated issues, it will be a pain. Unless it's a car you don't 100% need for a daily.

I think it all comes down to price and expectations. That was a $100K+ car I assume and if I had to guess you're about to pay ~$50K for a car with 10K miles. Have to price in the possible maintenance and your tolerance of inconvenience. Most of the problems that are listed on the forum are more inconveniences rather than major problems- if your Spotify doesn't work, is that something you need to have fixed or just work around it? If Dream Drive isn't working properly, is that something that would make you mad?
Great cars; expensive cars; expensive to repair if you are paying the dealer. If you set aside money for possible repairs ahead of time, you'd probably feel better about it.

Look around for an extended warranty - does XCare cover Lucid yet?

Personally I wouldn’t do it because the cost/inconvenience would just be too high in your situation. I’d either pass altogether or look for a newer one with longer warranty coverage.

They do!

However, 5 hours away from service?? Any major repair is going to cost you thousands in shipping. That would be my biggest concern.

I don’t know if there’s an extra cost for mobile service.

As for Lucid reliability, total hit or miss. I’d like to think one that’s been on the road for 4 years has already had any problems it was going to, but you never know.

I'm out of warranty and had to pay for one repair that was done by mobile service. I was only charged for the work at the same price I would have paid if I brought it to a service center. So no extra charge for mobile which was good because I'm 6 hours away from the closest service center.

The other thing to consider is whether or not there is a Lucid-authorized shop closer than the actual service center. There's one about an hour away from me. The problem with that is that they set their own prices which, in my experience, has been 2-3x what Lucid would have charged. That's the primary reason I got mobile service to replace the failed charge port door motor... It was significantly cheaper than the authorized shop making it worth the several weeks I had to wait for mobile to come up.

Eventually, there's going to be a time that the car will need to be repaired at an actual Lucid service center. When that time comes, it's going to be expensive and might result in the beginning of the end of my ownership.

I looked at xcare and thought it was very expensive but probably still less than the cost of a big repair. Gotta make that decision yourself though.

Decided to take leap of faith and buy it

Basic Warranty good till July. If it’s trouble free before that, I will probably take extended warranty. If it’s posing issues on regular basis, may be get rid of it and buy a 2025
Congratulations! My 2023 Air Touring has been very reliable.

I recently bought a 2023 Lucid Air Touring with 27k miles. The 4 year warranty on it expires in December. I was kinda in the same boat as you, when I made the purchase. Ownership started out a little rough. Lucid had the car for about 2 weeks, for some updates and recalls, and then the day I got it back, I got a "Power Reduced Warning", and they had to pick the car back up the same day I had gotten it back. The had it for 3 weeks this time. The inverter on the rear motor was fried, and they said they had to replace the whole unit. I absolutely love the car, and hope that I don't run into any more issues in the near future.
