Bottle of water damage 15500$

A newspaper in Germany claims a huge water (5 gallons) in the trunk got broken and damaged many modules leading a service cost of 15500$ (13000€).
Well, ths newspaper is famous for BS, but I want to know if that could be true.
I installed a subwoofer, amp and a LTO battery and therefore I disambled almost the whole trunk, but I didn't found modules in the trunk. there is just a fuse box, tiny battery and a bunch of cables.
under the backseat is just one module, but i can't belive this is that expensive.

5 gallon water bottle is not a spill , its called flooding the trunk.

About 15 years ago I totaled a Mercedes C32 AMG with a bottle of chlorine. Bought a gallon of chlorine for pool and put in truck but forgot about it. Drove around for couple days causing it to bounce around I guess and then start leaking into trunk. Chlorine got into wiring harness and ended up totaling car.

The actual parts to fix it is just a reasonably priced wiring harness. The rest is labor because they shorted out the entire electrical system of the car.

Funny thing. About a year later I got a call from a guy (found my name and number on invoice in glovebox) who had just bought the C32 from a dealer who I guess had bought it at auction and repaired it. He knew about history and that it was salvage but got it for about 1/2 of retail value at the time. He and a buddy had flown into Houston from Denver and were driving it back to Denver. He noticed that the original command infotainment had been replaced by aftermarket system, probably due to original system amps and controllers being under trunk also.

5 gallons of water is not small. With that much spilled in the trunk and factoring in a potential spike in humidity due to the spill, it's asking for trouble.
