Auto Unlock

It’s funny. Looking at the Forum, there are very few people complaining about the auto unlock feature. I use my iPhone as my fob. When I approach the car either the car unlocks immediately or I have to wait 10 seconds for it to wake up. There’s no rhyme or reason to why or when it opens.
It is driving me absolutely nuts.
Any suggestions?

This is probably the single biggest complaint on this forum!

The “solve” is to anticipate your need to unlock doors by opening the app on your phone in advance. Even then, it won’t work 100% of the time — in my experience it’s more like 90%.

Otherwise, some people have found success pressing in one of the back door handles (this works for me better than pressing the driver door handle in).

It seems to come down to the fact that the car sleeps and doesn’t always wake up in time.

The phone app seems to stop running in the background sometimes. All you have to do usually is just jiggle your phone or take it out of your pocket and it will work. I think its part of the iPhone NFC stuff since it uses that to unlock,

It’s actually Bluetooth.

Mine worked all the time, sometimes it would unlock before I even made it into the garage - which drove me nuts. Eventually I disabled it and now I just press the door handle. One of the only things I miss about my model S is the ability to disable the door handle auto present at home only.

My phone is working great these days as a key; I decided to try it again instead of the fob after some folks mentioned the phone was working better after recent updates. (the fob had always been pretty much flawless, but it would be nice not to have to carry it.)

I also noticed something I hadn’t seen previously: if the car notices that proximity has woken it, but no one entered the car, after two or three times of that, it will disable the automatic opening (for some unspecified length of time), and then you’ll just have to press the handle. That’s very nice for the times when listening to a podcast in my kitchen, just inside the garage door, was triggering it repeatedly.

Note that it’s also important to set your Lucid app on the phone to have the location always on, not on only when using the app.

I have quite literally a 0% success rate on the car opening without taking my phone out of my pocket (at a minimum) since day 1. On the plus side it makes it a very easy choice to NOT rely on that. The fob works 99% of the time for me.

I have tried the phone vs the FOB vs both several times, and for me the FOB wins hands down (even after the recent updates). It's not 100%, but it is easy to click or double click, and that always works.

Honestly, there is something wrong that requires service. Most of us find that it works 100% of the time, just not as quickly as we would like.

Well it does eventually work. I just have to wait a very long time or take my phone out of my pocket to wake it up (or some combination). I just consider this to be an unusable experience so I use the fob. I have had service look at this twice and they found nothing wrong.

I do wonder if it gets worse the less often you use it. Like perhaps iOS more aggressively pauses the app in those cases?

This might sound crazy but try turning off wifi in the car. My car takes anywhere from 10 minutes to infinity to wake up when wifi is enabled. It doesn't matter whether it's actually connected to wifi either, just having it enabled breaks everything.

I also have an iPhone 15 and 16 and they work without taking it out of my pocket or waking it. This is why I am wondering if there’s an issue with your car. It’s 100% predictable, although it takes a few seconds sometimes.

I find it more prevalent when i haven't been in the car for 4-5 h ours.

I actually have already tried this after seeing this recommendation on the forum!

What part of the door handle do you press for the car to expedite unlocking? I’ve heard from others, pressing the door handle unlocks the car. But this does not seem to work on mine. Pressing the door handle does nothing with iPhone in hand. Yes I’m only trying this on the front doors and not the rear doors.

My handle goes in but it doesn’t wake up the car or unlock or anything.

Pushing in the drivers side rear door handle helps my air wake up faster for some reason.
