Android auto

Updated to 2.7.0 with AA. Even though I set in the settings on my phone to Automatically Start AA, I would have to push the AA icon on the Lucid Panel each time to connect/activate AA in the car.

Is that what everyone is experiencing? Or does your AA auto start without you having to push the AA icon on the Lucid Panel?

Here is a description of using the ABRP phone app for real-time EV trip routing:
ABRP always wants to put me charging in the worst areas or places that aren't really "public". An example is, on a trip to Vermont (in a different car), it sent me to a pay parking garage. I had to pay to get in, then wait for the charger to be available. I now only use it as a reference tool.

I am planning 3k mile round trip from Fremont, CA to Banff Canada via Portland. Sep 17 to 27. ABRP confirmed that it is the ideal route. I may use ABRP for just 1 month. I am tempted to connect mmmy car to Enode and try ABRP but I like Google maps Nav better. I don't think Google Maps support Enode. Right?

While planning, I scrutinize every charging location ABRP suggests by using Plugshare.

Still trying to wrap my head around what I can do with this. Is it possible to add Android Auto compatible apps (like VLC)? I have AA on my phone, but it doesn't show as connected to the car. Should I connect it and then I'll be able to configure? Or are the apps Lucid installed all that can be used?

Once you connect your phone to the car using Android Auto, you can turn AA-compatible apps on or off using the settings on your phone, or via the settings icon on the projection on the car.

I tried using customize launcher to change which apps are displayed, but it didn't seem to change anything. Is there a way to change the icons on the AA main screen?

You can re-order them by dragging in the screen that lets you turn them on or off.

I do that, but the new order is not reflected in the car. Do I need to restart the car or AA to get this correctly reflected?

It's likely that you need to restart AA. Mine re-ordered properly, but I was constantly re-starting AA.

Does AA have similar functionality to the phone? I.e., alerts, acknowledgements of alerts, setting the destination, reporting of hazards, etc..All on the car interface?

I've used the Tesla 3rd party equivalent and it lags and is awkward to use.

I haven't had a road alert yet, so not positive of that, but I'd expect so. Google Maps through AA works the same as Google Maps on my phone, and as native Google Maps in our other EV. Google Assistant is accurate as usual for setting destinations - either press the microphone button on the AA phone projection, or long-press the steering wheel button.

The only real glitch I've come across with Android Auto is the need to turn the car's Bluetooth off and back on once in a while if AA doesn't start up automatically. An annoyance, but doesn't take much time.

AA navigation question vs the Lucid native app
I'm a new Lucid Air owner*.
  • The native app calculates the charging waypoints for you and is refreshingly accurate (I'm a former Tesla owner).
  • AA does not calculate charging waypoints, correct? While parked, you have to plug in the waypoints in AA, as far as I can tell. You cannot add stops to AA while underway.
  • If something happens along the way that decreases your range, AA will not adjust and reroute you, right?
  • With AA I appreciate the heads up for police and construction and all kinds of stuff, but when you're in a state where the EV infrastructure is very limited, accuracy of the native app regarding range is better than AA, it seems.
  • And you can't run both at the same time, it seems.
  • I'm new to both so let me know if I'm missing something.
*Just picked up my 2025 Air Pure 3 weeks ago - loving it! 1,500 miles into a cross-country road trip I got the AA update - loving it!

I haven't tried your last point, but otherwise all your bullets are correct.

It's more accurate to say that Google Maps on Lucid's implementation of Android Auto does not do EV route planning., rather than saying that AA does not do EV route planning.
Google Maps running on AA in Ford vehicles can do EV route planning.

A Better Route Planner (ABRP) running on AA can do EV route planning if you pay for a $5 month's "premium" subscription and enable Enode data transfer. It's not clear if Enode is actually needed. also not clear if this is better in any way than just running the car's native navigation (HERE maps). If you use it, check any suggested charging stops against Plugshare for operability and user reviews.

The only notable drawback with the car's native nav is that it has only a fraction of the named POIs that Google maps has (viewpoints, trailheads, etc without addresses). HERE does generally navigate to addresses well enough, though with occasional location errors.

Yes, road alerts, police, closed lanes come through.

AA doesn't reliably connect, and when it doesn't (just circles on starting until it gives up), the only way I've found to fix it is to reboot the Lucid. Tried disabling, re-enabling Bluetooth on the car, but that didn't work.

Delete your car from the phone and your phone from the car and then start everything over

I tried this, but it didn't improve my AA connection success rate with a Pixel 9 Pro xl. Fortunately, turning the car's Bluetooth off and on has always worked to get AA started.
