- Lucid Air Pure RWD
I thought I would share my experience tracking a Lucid Air Pure RWD at Thunderhill West, posted this on the FB group and reddit but figured I would post here too.
My track car was out of commission and I wanted to catch up with some friends so I brought the Lucid out. I only did one session because I didn't want to ruin my tires too much, but oh man.. what a fun car on track.
First the "negatives" - obviously the narrow 245 section eco tires are a huge weak point, but it made for some good slides. The brakes were fading pretty easily, but with the lack of tire the ABS was kicking in frequently. I think with replacing the tires with something grippier and high temp fluid, the car could be plenty capable. I recognize this is absolutely not a use case for Lucid's engineering team.
For the positives, the car was truly FUN. The steering communicated amount of front end grip really well, the car was able to rotate way better than I expected any stock car to rotate. I was expecting terminal understeer but that was not the case at all. Getting on the brakes into a corner and the weight transfer was so easy to modulate. Even on stock dampers, I had a lot of confidence to fully send it over some curbing and it didnt upset the chassis much at all. For this 2 mile Thunderhill West track, there was enough power, especially out of corners. Also a huge THANK YOU to Lucid to allow to shut off all electronic assist very easily. In my video, I turn fully shut it off mid way through turn 2 on the first lap.
I know the Sapphire is the car Lucid engineers for the track. But at 4500lbs and RWD, this car is dynamically incredible. If you want a drivers EV, I think this is the one.
