I have a Tidal subscription. It plays through Apple CarPlay, but it will not play via the music icon. I just get the message that no data is found. First question: am I doing something wrong, and what do I need to do differently? Second question: is the sound quality any better playing Tidal direct versus playing through Apple CarPlay?

Sound quality is much better with the native app than CarPlay, and the native app is the only way you can play Atmos tracks (if you have SSP). For your no data issue - do any of the native music apps work? That message should mean that your car has no internet connection. Otherwise, you may have to ask service.

I agree that the sound quality is much better in the native Tidal app. The Atmos tracks sound amazing.

I too have experienced the no data error message. Usually for me it means that I am in an area with limited internet access and then when I am back in an area with better access, it reverts back to the track that I was playing. That being said, the native Tidal app is TERRIBLE — among other things, there is no search function.

There is a search function, it just isn't always the easiest to find. I swear it's just hidden sometimes at random, but I haven't tried to find a logic to when it shows up. There will be a search bar right at the top on the pilot panel... sometimes. Still overall not a good UX, but you can search.

Thanks. I’ll look again but I’ve NEVER seen it.

I had Tidal for two years on our Lucid when it suddenly stopped functioning. I reloaded the app, checked all my account settings, etc. I finally tried to get in touch with Tidal customer support for help but got nothing back but boilerplate email messages that neither fixed the problem nor gave me access to a human being. After a couple of weeks of such nonsense, I finally canceled my subscription.

It pops up whenever you tap the Tidal icon(pictured here) in the pilot panel

The app needs to fix a few things. Searching, I honestly didn’t know existed until this thread. Second, if I want to browse artists, I don’t want to hear every possible song by that artist, I want to get to a specific album. Third, since the first organizational issue exists, I have to browse by album and they’re not sorted in any way at all as far as I can tell. It makes finding the album I want to listen to unnecessarily difficult. Finally, it needs to figure out how to pick up playing an album where it left off when I got out of the car, not start over entirely.

Thanks to all who responded to my question. At some point after I asked it, the native Tidal app populated itself with content that I have previously played elsewhere. To my recollection, it is the first time that the native Tidal app has worked in the years that I have owned the car (though it is possible that my behavior has been to default to Apple CarPlay, given my previous lack of success). And I agree, the sound is SO MUCH BETTER then through Apple CarPlay.

Sounds amazing, terrible interface, catalog barely ok.

Other issues with Tidal and the other music apps is that they frequently do not recall where you left off in a playlist. Get out of the car for an errand and when you resume, either the playlist starts over, the music does not start at all, or, occasionally, the song you were listening to continues. Get a call on carplay and when it ends, sometimes the music has no volume or it has a low volume that does not respond to the volume knob. Requires a phone reboot to fix. Stay on a longer call and sometimes the music comes on during the call, and does not respond to the volume knob. Not sure what causes this behavior but it is frustrating and embarrassing on a business call . Lucid should really get out of the infotainment software business and leave this to Apple and Google. Great driving car. Software sucks. Bug fixes few and far between.

So true and that sucks

Tidal interface sans-Lucid is legendarily known for being of poor design or consideration. There are some tricks to it, like you can hit the ((.)) button a few icons to the right of the > "Next" track and it will play "similar"-ish songs, so say if you're playing the band, Boston, and you select that, a randomize feature will have it go through Tidal's set playlist of similar bands, like Aerosmith, and AC/DC, etc. making it marginally tolerable.

Personally because the Tidal app is so bad I use the mobile or desktop app to build playlists or add artists and albums to my collection. In the car I just use my collection. The sound quality is definitely amazing but searching and actually finding what I’m looking for is just too much of a headache in the car. FYI, the mobile and desktop apps aren’t the greatest either.

Is there any way I'm the desktop app to search for Atmos tracks?

Yes. I am running the Tidal app on an IPad. From the Home Screen, select the search icon. Scroll down and there is a menu item, Dolby Atmos.

There isn’t a way to just limit your search to Atmos tracks which is one of the reasons I said the mobile and desktop apps aren’t that great either. You just have to search for the name of the album or track and then look in the results for the one with the Atmos logo. Sometimes that can even be hard to find. I try to do as narrow of a search as possible and then I just scroll through the results.

This kind of thing is so much easier in Apple Music but unfortunately we don’t yet have a native Apple Music app in the car.

If you type "Atmos" in the search function, the results will show a link for "Go to genre" for Dolby Atmos where there is a lot of Dolby Atmos related info. You can also at this point click on Playlists, Albums, or Tracks to see many Atmos tracks.
