For many of us, the phone works fine too.

(Though I have to touch the screen of the phone to wake it up for it to communicate with the car, I can do that just by putting my hand in my pocket)

The update was purely infotainment. It has nothing to do with the way the doors are locked or unlocked. That will remain the same until they decide to go to a completely different technology in a future model. The Gravity uses UWB while the Air uses Bluetooth.
