I'll be interested to see who the buyer is for this. It seems to target a very specific and quite limited market. Reminds me a bit of the Volkswagen Phaeton back in the day. It could however be a very intriguing buy on the used market in a few years when depreciation has knocked it down to $50K.

I DO think Lucid has good efficiency.
That said, don't compare Lucid's claimed range based on extrapolated EPA ratings vs real-life 70-75mph tests.
Lucid's efficiency is "good", but not as good as they imply based on EPA ratings.

If you search on this forum, the generally realized Lucid Air's efficiency on road trips (70-75mph) is probably in the 3.6-3.8 mi/kWh regime. For Gravity, probably in the 2.9-3.1 mi/kWh range. These are good numbers, but not as good as the Lucid quoted EPA-based numbers would suggest. And competitors are not as far behind as you might think. Just look at the OoS races (I-90, Maine to Key West).

Separately, as EV charging matures and NASC charging becomes the norm, the availability of charging locations is much more plentiful. The focus should be on charging speed, not large batteries. Your bladder and the charging speed are the key factors. A good 300-mile range is probably going to be the norm. 450–500-mile range with large batteries that add weight and cost to the EV are going to be dinosaurs.

The EPA rating uses a mix of city and highway driving and doesn’t necessarily have to account for things like altitude, temperature, cabin climate, etc. It also benefits from the use of regenerative braking which can make a significant difference in total range. It’s not a bad test per se, just limited.

I do agree that battery size and efficiency is a better metric in comparing vehicles. The reason that we often become fixated on distance is due to the distance that exists between charging stations. As chargers become more plentiful we’ll be less focused on distance traveled on a single charge.
