I've asked for and received a detailed technical briefing of my repair. The root cause of the RDU failure was an internal failure within the inverter which has been attributed to a manufacturing variance (i.e., something was out of spec). The RDU is being shipped back to the factory for a post...
I'm pretty sure previous versions had the lane nanny function that provides some steering resistance when approaching the edge of the lane. What does lane centering provide? Hands free?
I've been told the problem is the Rear Drive Unit (RDU). The RDU will be replaced this week and if all goes well, I should have the car back early next week.
I am perplexed by this explanation. The standard ethernet connector is an RJ-45 which is quite secure, so it would be interesting to understand how the ethernet cables are connected.

The saga continues... The transport arrived tonight unannounced (we were supposed to get a call an hour in advance of arrival). When they arrived, I figured out why we did not get a call. The driver only spoke Russian and very very little English. We tried to use Google translate but that must...
This forum has prepared me with what to look out for, so I am happy to pay it forward. I made it a point to learn about the recovery eye location when I took delivery and my advisor knew exactly where it was.
Now that I've had a chance to calm down, I'd like to emphasis this point. The GI contact who is arranging transport and the rental/loaner contacted me in less than hour after I got home. I've since had several calls and texts with them to get the details worked out. I'll have a rental tomorrow...
I guess a lesson here for those of us far from a service center - tow to your house (or other close 'safe' location) in any way you can (AAA, your auto insurance or Lucid). Separately arrange transport on a covered trailer. I wouldn't want the car on a flatbed for nearly 300 miles.
