Apple’s fancy new CarPlay will only work wirelessly

Really? I learned something new today. And yes, a GPS receiver isn't very expensive, but losing the overhead of the application maintenance could make sense. My musings still stand. The case for CarPlay 2.0 is muddy. If the owner is a committed Apple user and the OEM can make the business...

Apple’s fancy new CarPlay will only work wirelessly

This could still work, albeit in a limited way. Apple provides the OEMs with the framework and tools to develop the UI, the OEMs ship the car with that UI, but if you're a non-Apple user, you still have to use Bluetooth to connect to the car. Updates could still be pushed to the car using a...

Apple’s fancy new CarPlay will only work wirelessly

So If I understand this right then, the main benefit is that your phone is used to pass the UI assets to the car, which are then stored locally in the car, and the assets are only updated if there is a change? That makes more sense I guess. It cleans up needing a separate cellular account to...

Apple’s fancy new CarPlay will only work wirelessly

I, for one, think wireless-only CarPlay is trouble waiting to happen. It's fine to start loading the resources early, but having instruments depend on wireless comms is making the hair on my neck stand up.

    Lucids & Lattes - San Diego Meetup - Sunday 6/9 @ 9 AM

I generally have one with my kit when I go out, I just don't think to use it unless I'm long exposure or awkward angle pics. (And yes, I try to avoid being in front of the lens too. You caught me. 😬)

I think they're still using the old Tegra series of processors for the Air, ca. 2016-ish. Gravity will have a more modern processor. @borski or @Adnillien, please check my work.

    Lucid OTA update 2.2.2

I had this happen too, and noticed that the time to install was different for the two prompts (40 min for the first install, 45 min for the second). The first install said it finished, then on the next drive I was prompted for the second time. I let it install the second time and it's been fine...

Hold out for the Gravity, or get something else?

Remember, Cd is a ratio of frontal area to drag. The smaller car with the same Cd as a larger one will still be more efficient because there's less area.

    277 volt service

One of the appeals of the J3400 NACS 277V spec is that it won't require a transformer installation if the site has 480V 3ph already connected. Installation without the cost of a big step-down transformer may tip a few more building owners into supporting chargers...

    Lucid OTA update 2.2.2

I still do this for new places! It's the tactile nature of it, like opening a new book, smelling the paper, going to a counter and asking a person for something that they have to pull from a slightly dusty bin... OTA updates give a nice quick dopamine hit, and are vastly more practical. But the...
