    Drive Unit Failure

Man that stinks - sorry to hear. Not meaning to rub salt in the wound, but there is nothing that requires you to wait for Lucid roadside assistance - after a reasonable amount of time I’d just get a tow truck on my own to avoid sitting around all day. I know it sucks - shouldn’t have to deal...

CNBC Mad Money - I would buy Rivian over Lucid, says Jim Cramer

Cramer is to picking stock winners as Ted Cruz is to cheering for Texas sports teams. Almost a perfect record of jinxing their picks.

"State of Charge" Charging Drag Race between Gravity and new Porsche Taycan

Your personal limiting factor (love it) is at least 3x more efficient than mine. 😜 After several bouts of kidney stones, I don’t push it at all - this is the main reason why NOBODY wants to road trip with me - and that is totally fine by me.

The best intentions to stave off battery degradation

Not sure why you would worry about any of those 3 items - none will hurt your battery, and you have a long battery warranty anyway. Stressing about a simple trip like this takes every ounce of fun out of owning an EV. Charge to 100% when you need to, DC fast charge when you need to, and plug...

Anyone up for auto insurance rate comparisons?

I just went and looked at my Progressive renewal - $1600 for 6 months just for my Model S Plaid. Original premium one year ago was $1200/6 months. I need to be shopping around - this is ridiculous. Zero claims or tickets on my record.

Anyone up for auto insurance rate comparisons?

That’s pretty good, but I noticed when I got my S Plaid, the original rate I was quoted was good for the first 6 months, then they immediately ratcheted it up at the renewal. It’s almost bait and switch and it sucks because then you own the car and have to pay the ransom.

    Locked Out

My cars with fobs from the early 2000s knew not to lock the car when a fob was inside it - this is pretty basic tech that is not complicated at all. The more complex stuff car makers want to add in shows how they can forget that some solutions are out there looking for a problem. This should...

    Gravity Tire Replacement Comparison

I drive a ton - usually 25-30k miles a year - so I pay attention to tire prices since I often have to replace every year (if I’m lucky). I do consider it just the cost of driving bad*** cars so I wince and pay the premium.

CarPlay Ultra, the next generation of CarPlay, begins rolling out today

I agree with this. CarPlay as it is right now makes sense - if the only option is to control everything in the car through CarPlay, that will turn people off. My wife hates that all the controls in my Tesla are through the screen somewhere - she wants regular old buttons for basic features...

CarPlay Ultra, the next generation of CarPlay, begins rolling out today

I have a sample size of one, but my wife has CarPlay as one of the very top priorities in a new car. It’s why she won’t drive a Tesla or a Rivian and won’t consider any new cars without it. I don’t really care either way and think that the Tesla system is great, but there is a reason why there...

1 minute grace period at EA?!?!

I guess you aren’t reading it the same way I am - it starts right away but is waived if you don’t move within 10 minutes. Were you actually charged anything? If you move within 10, you shouldn’t see any idle charges, even though the timer started on you right away.

1 minute grace period at EA?!?!

See the edit and link I posted - seems like you are good.

1 minute grace period at EA?!?!

That’s pretty quick, but was the entire station full? Tesla’s idle fees start as soon as your charge is complete but are waived if you move within 5 minutes, and only apply when the site is more than half full, so maybe it’s the same for EA. Edit - it looks like you get 10 minutes grace period...

    Lease Charges for Damage

No way any of that costs Lucid $4k (sales tax? On what?) to recondition. That scratch probably buffs out, the wheel can be refinished for $200 retail, and the tire maybe $500 if it indeed needs to be replaced. Max should be $1000 but I am in the camp that this is all super minor on a 3 year...

Battery losing 3% in 10 hours

People are too obsessive about these cars - what did you do when you had a normal ICE car and it went in for service? The ability to remotely monitor it is making folks neurotic. I imagine the techs at Lucid know what they are doing.

How long to keep an EV?

Don’t change anything based on what others do - you do you. Seems like a reasonable approach that works for you - I used to swap cars every year or so because I liked trying new things and there are a lot of great cars. Now I’ve had my 911 since 2011, my Cayenne since 2016, and plan on keeping...
