That's actually incorrect. I've never connected an iPhone to my car but I saw the CarPlay icon also. I think it was just the first time after the update though

I've had several door handles break when trying to push through ice. So now I try to remember to walk out to the car without a fob or mobile key and push each one in to manually break the ice before letting the car try to do it
