QUESTION 2023 Air Touring Tire efficiency

Wrong comparison. Summer tires compared to high efficiency all season tires.

Body damage to the roof and hood

BTW I initiated communication between the two insurance companies. Originally, Lucid Chicago pointed me to the only body shop in 300 miles that can do the repair. 4 weeks later, Progressive says they are not a “preferred” vendor so they will not pay. I said, OK, take the vehicle to a preferred...

Great thoughts. But. No. Unfortunately. Not in Wisconsin.

    Hello from Hamburg, Germany

Welcome to the forum. Years ago in my auto industry days (mid-1990s), I was a BMW fanatic. On one of my monthly business trips to Germany I took delivery of a beautiful 540i using the tourist purchase program. Back then, the autobahns were a lot of fun. Now I think much more traffic congestion...

QUESTION 2023 Air Touring Tire efficiency

The tires themselves have significantly different coefficients of friction which impacts efficiency. By definition, sports tires or summer tires have greater grip which means greater friction and less efficiency. I think that is about a 10% difference. Maybe half of that again comes from the...

Body damage to the roof and hood

I’m not going through my insurance because the other party admitte fault. If I file the claim, I would owe my deductible, lose my perfect driver rebate, and suffer higher premiums down the road. That could total $1,500-2,000. I would rather just enforce the legal responsibility of the other...

    Regenerative braking and range

A key part of maximizing EV efficiency is driving technique. Using active cruise control, for example, obliviates the above example. Of course if you accelerate only to have to slow down there are significant efficiency losses. Not smart. That’s why a real time mi/kwh meter is extremely helpful...

Body damage to the roof and hood

Repairs to Lucid vehicles is a nightmare. I got rear ended while stopped at a red light. A $5,000 estimate to replace the rear bumper (can’t be repaired) is now a $8,000 estimate. The driver-at-fault’s insurance company, who has accepted responsibility, has decided not to pay because, well, it...

A Comparison of my Lucid AT and my Genesis GV-60

My loaner Kia EV6 (over the past 3 weeks, similar platform to the Ioniq 5 and 6) gets 3.8 and my Lucid Touring gets 4.2 by the same driver (me) same typography same conditions. My Lucid weighs 700 lbs. more.

    Regenerative braking and range

Every vehicle can coast in which there are friction losses in the powertrain and driveline and tires on the road. These friction losses are not insignificant. When a EV is in regen mode it is coasting too, but in addition (and instead of friction braking which is 100% energy loss to heat), a...

    Regenerative braking and range

Weak regen makes no sense logically if the goal is max efficiency. Either coasting plus friction braking is better than regen or regen is better. So a combination will not maximize efficiency. Simple logic. The laws of physics tell us regen is actually significantly better than coasting. I...

    What MpKW for rated range?

Actually EV’s are more efficient with city driving. It is counter intuitive, but a combination of slower speeds plus heavy regen creates higher efficiency.

Chicago to Traverse City MI-where to stay?

Grand Traverse Resort. Several options including high-rise hotel and a few different townhouse condo choices. One is on the beach on Lake Michigan, the others have golf course views.

Great report. Thanks for sharing. I have had similar experiences but not the turtle mode thing. That must have been scary. I personally find the seats very comfortable. My wife who is the world’s best complainer says our Lucid is the most comfortable and most enjoyable road trip vehicle of all...

    Electrify America Overpriced?

My point about large inefficient EV’s is not a comment about the Lucid Air, which is a wonderful, amazing, highly efficient EV. The problem is the Ford Lightnings, GM Hummers, Porsche Taycans that are so inefficient they are actually consuming fast charging capacity at EA sites, clogging it up...

    Electrify America Overpriced?

The two answers to the OP’s original question about why drive an EV are: 1. To save money. But, you must charge at home. 2. To have fun with a really great vehicle, enjoy it as a once in a lifetime technology shift in the realm of personal transportation. My Lucid is the best car I ever owned...

Help! Drove Over a Curb. Advice Appreciated

I did the same. One tire lost air pressure. I replaced 2 tires through my local Lucid service center. If you go to Tire Rack or Discount Tire make sure they use the exact tire otherwise the ride and handling will not be the same.

Why is the Pure RWD so much lighter?

The half-shafts which are the two driven axles from the motor to the wheel ends will have some impact on the weight difference in addition to the motor itself.
