Anyone have massage seats that stop working after 20-30 min on the "rolling" setting? Then they don't work for 5-10 minutes, then only work for 5-10 min per time after that. The display shows they're still on, but they're not.

I can't seem to find any documentation of cool down period, or anything like that.

It's tracked to be serviced for a door that keeps opening and both front seats, but thought I'd ask here as well..
 
Yes I experience the same - the massage function quietly quits after some time while the display shows they’re still activated. Trying to reactivate any of the massage programs when this happens doesn’t work.
 
Same here. I assume there is a maximum duty cycle for the massage function.
The fact that massage just quits but the GUI says it’s still on is just one of those little treats that remind you you’re driving a Lucid ❤️
 
The weird thing is that this was brought up before and there are some of us (me included) who's massage seats don't turn off like this. I had just done a nearly 3 hour drive from San Diego to Anaheim in bad traffic back when this was brought up in April or May and my wife and I both had massage on the whole time.

Makes me wonder if the turning off is a bug or if the staying on is a bug!
 
In the Air, they turn off after 20 minutes and there is a countdown. After a certain number of rounds, it turns off completely to prevent overheating and over stressing the air balloons.

Gravity seems to do the same, but may be trying to be “smarter” about when it shuts off rather than limiting it to an exact time.

I agree it should say that.

What massage setting though? I've found the ones that just vibrate will go on forever. it's the rollers that turn off.

Deep, one of the roller ones. I almost never use the ones that vibrate.
 
This happens every time for me. I need to push service to give me an actual answer of if this is "as designed". Nobody ever seems to confirm.... this seems like a trivial thing for Nick or Marqie to comment on?
 
I've posted this on the Facebook forum because the social media team seems to engage more there than here. This is such a simple thing for them to say "as-designed, UI will be fixed in the future" or "schedule a seat replacement with service". Surely someone must know? (The SC does not.)
 
I asked the SC again and the reply I got was (lightly edited):
My research indicates that depending on which massage function is in use that the motors will pause after running for 20-30 minutes to allow the motors to cool. They should restart which is why the UI still indicates they are on - because they are - just paused. There are other factors the include if the seat heater is also on, contributing to heat build up, the amount pressure on the massaging nodes, also contributing to heat buildup, ambient temp, inhibiting cool down etc. These are not the only possible causes as power fluctuations can also have a similar effect. A vehicle reset will often restore operation if the situation is related to power fluctuations.

Seems entirely believable and also explains the differences in what people are reporting here -- maybe if you keep your car really cold it'll stay on longer -- but it would be good for this to be officially documented or even for UX feedback. If it's really thermal sensors, it also means there should be variation from build-to-build.

We're getting our Gravity back again today (after the window fiasco) and driving out to Legoland NY tomorrow. I'll set my massaging seat on with the cooling mode on high and see if that makes a measurable difference in timeout behavior.
 
OK, after about 12 total hours of driving I can report that the "vibrating" (e.g. Unwind) modes don't seem to lock out, but the "kneading" (e.g. Deep, Rolling) modes do. When a kneading mode locks out, you can switch to a vibrating mode. It definitely seems to be some undocumented safety feature on the kneading nubs.

I wonder if the cooled seats contribute anything at all. I mentioned having a "keading" mode on that I knew stayed on for the entirety of a long drive but we were also using the seat coolers at the same time.
 
Mine does the same. Thanks for all the research into this guys! This was one of the most important features for my wife and it really disappoints her that it will just stop working. I'll let her know to try the vibration (but we don't really like these types of "massage") and/or keep seat AC on.
 
same here. However, if I choose different massage setting it works but less intense. For example if I choose deep, then after it stops, I choose (unwind) it works.
 
I know for sure that most non-vehicle massage chairs have motors that are designed to run for only about 30 minutes continuously before needing a rest. Some chairs enforce that, but plenty of models let you over-work them, and that's a common reason massage chairs end up needing a repair. My assumption is that Lucid has a thermal sensor protecting the motors driving the massage function. I agree with others that it would be good if the UI made it clear when the massage has to pause for cooling.
