Frunk lid warning

Warning to all. Never use the frunk release inside your car. Release from the app while standing in front of the car only.

So here's the story. I do not have the package where the frunk opens up. So when I hit release in the car, it is still closed until I walk over there and open the trunk. Every other car has a second manual release. Lucid decided to buck that trend and it can be costly if you aren't careful.

Well, I hit the release and as I'm getting out of the car, a moderate gust of wind blows open the hood all the way back and out rips off the side struts. This also leads to some trim coming off and my driver door not lining up right anymore and creaking. Wasn't even that much wind. This airfoils really catch the wind.

Well, I tried to see if Lucid would cover it. Can't get in touch with anyone so I just scheduled an appt. Waited 2 months for my appt. They had my car for a month. So I waited 3 months to get this fixed. Today they gave me the car back and they did absolutelybnothing except wash it. Not even the other laundry list of issues were addressed. Theyb told me to go to a body shop. One that's very far from my house. They aren't going to cover this and I'm guessing it will be costly.

I can maybe understand it not being covered. But it is kind of BS that the hood is so fragile and lacks a manual release. But I also had to wait 3 months to be told they won't cover it. That sucks. I was looking forward to the Cosmo, but I think I've had enough of Lucid. Excited to start looking for my next car brand.

It’s a bummer, but that would be a Comprehensive insurance claim, not warranty.

I have the motorized one, how heavy does the manual one feel? Strong gust of wind.. but at the same time that's a deceptively large surface area for the wind to get under. That's really crummy but I guess that's why we have insurance.

Also kind of highlights why the app isn't a replacement for a service advisor. Probably could have saved OP weeks if they were able to have a discussion with a person.

I view it as unsurprising that the damage isn't covered by the warranty, and I"m surprised that you thought it might be. But the lack of manual safety catch seems 100% like a design flaw. I wonder if the car has a safety interlock to keep you from driving if the frunk has been released?The slow service seems absolutely unacceptable. From your description, the car sounds potentially undriveable, and both the initial two month delay and lack of initial triage doesn't meet even basic standards for service.

The Gravity allows you to drive with both the frunk and trunk open. NotchEV shows it in a video if my memory doesn't fail me.

I wasn't expecting the warranty to cover it, but thought it would be worth a shot, especially since I believe it was a design flaw that lead to the incident. It was windy, but nothing crazy. Although, I do live in the windy city. But the hood was still closed. The wind just caught it at the right angle. I had other little things to address anyway (which they also didn't take care of), so I thought I'd try. Car is still drivable.

It's a little hard to close the frunk, but if I try driving and it isn't closed all the way it cuts power to the car to only 5 mph. So that is a nice safety feature.

I still think that a manual latch should be standard for those of us without auto open. My next car will have that.

I'm a bit shocked by this. Not that driving with the trunk open is possible, most cars allow that. But there's a well established reason that hoods have secondary safety catches, and ignoring well established solutions to a known safety problem is the kind of design flaw that causes a manufacturer to lose a product liability lawsuit. If anyone ever gets in an accident because the frunk hood folds back aginst the windscreen while they're driving down the highway, they'll find plenty of lawyers eager to take on a slam-dunk case against Lucid.

Pretty sure the Air (unfamiliar with Gravity) double latched and the software releases them in order. Hence the frunk being unlatched enough to limit driving but not enough to open.
