Last Monday a tractor-trailer tried to occupy the same space I was in as I was driving on I-285 eastbound to I-75 South @ ATL. He did a number on my driver side passenger door. As he shifted into my lane from my left, he gouged from the rear fender forward ‘til he jerked back into his lane. The impact first pushed the rear of the car to the right. As he snapped back into his lane, he then jerked the car back to the left until there was a Pop! and the car was free. Some fishtailing ensued that I had to manage, but the Air trued up well. All this at 60 mph. I am convinced its 5,000 lb heft kept it from being thrown into s spin and crashing. I was able to pull the car onto the shoulder without any further incident.
No injuries to any of the 3 of us in the car nor to the truck driver. Rented a car to return to NJ and had the car towed to Kennesaw for repair.
Allstate has been awesome through all this as I subrogated my claim against the driver’s company to them. Within 2 days I had the estimate they and the Lucid-approved shop had agreed upon and the shop has already begun the job. Waiting to see if the shop finds more damage as they disassemble the AT to do the required surgery.
