Having the keycard or your phone outside the vehicle is imperative here.

But, as I posted in another thread, If you're car camping and don't lock the car (with you & the fob inside) opening any door (e.g. to go pee late at night) will turn all the lights back on bothering other campers and waking up the person sleeping next to you.
Buy locking the car with the fob from the inside, you are able to open the rear doors without any lights coming on. But... if you have auto-lock on you had better leave the door ajar so you can get back in, for if it locks you out and then you have to open it with the fob, keycard, or app: BOOM!...now you're that guy that has his headlights blaring in the middle of the night in an otherwise quiet campground with the irritable wife telling him how she just loves the lights shining in her newly awakened eyes!!

@hwy17er can you provide the link to your post about car camping and locking?
I've car camped once. When I needed to exit overnight, I unlocked with the app and the lights came on.
I'd like to avoid that.
I tried what you suggested about how to avoid the lights, but it didn't work.
I'll respond in the appropriate thread, which is why I need the link to your car camping post.

The "this needs to be fixed" attitude comes off as saying the owner did everything they could have done to avoid the situation, which we know isn't true.
The car is designed with features that account for being locked out, even though some owners don't necessarily like all of those features (e.g. pressing the door handle).

Do some cars have a bug in which pressing the door handles is not working? Yes
Does that bug need to be fixed? Yes. Along with other bugs that owners have found ways to handle (no pun intended) until fixes are released.
There are ways to handle (pun intended) the door handle bug until it is fixed for those affected. Until then, it's the responsibility of owners to account for that bug, just like the other bugs, as best as they can.

IIRC the key fob goes to sleep until you shake it to wake it up. Thus after sitting for a bit the key fob won't be detectable in the car. Is this correct? I think I'm remembering this correctly. I think the bluetooth key fobs are broadcasting all the time so as long as the key is detectable the car will see the key.

No. I mentioned earlier but I tried it for myself for an hour. Left the keyfob in the car and after 10-20 minutes, the door handles retracted but at the end of the hour, I went out and pushed the handle and the car opened right away. I don't believe it ever fully stopped detecting the key. This however has been noted by others as not functioning as it should for them and the car indeed locked them out and the key was completely undetected.

I think this is a key point. The IIRC fob goes to sleep. I thought that the latest fob update makes the fob ‘wake up’ if it does fall asleep. (Maybe I’m not describing that accurately?) but if it doesn’t wake up , I can see this happening. Otherwise should allow the car to open with handle press. 🤷🏽‍♂️

The latest fob update automatically reboots the fob if its software has gone off into the weeds for some reason: cosmic ray, static electricity spark, edge case coding bug, whatever.

This should mean there will be no more reason to pull the fob battery out and put it back in.
 
I seem to recall some mention of a dead spot in the Air where the car would not detect the fob. It was either in the cupholders or in the center console.

I’m not sure if it’s the same with the gravity…

So it may really matter where you leave the fob inside the car!
 
This happened to my wife a week ago. Good thing she was still in the garage. She was on the way to the gym, put her gym bag in the passenger seat behind her, then she realized she forgot her flask in the kitchen. Her FOB, phone and card were in the gym bag. When she realized that she was locked out, she went back in the house and found my key card but it took a couple minutes before the card worked. I guess disabling auto lock is the solution for now.
 
Apple Watch lucid app is a nice backup option too for lockouts potentially.

Are you on the latest 3.6.3 and key fob firmware 2.35.13?

I tried recreating this scenario and my Gravity worked fine. What I did/noticed:
  • Put my key fob and phone in the middle of a bag of clothes, with the phone sitting on top of the fob (providing some signal shielding/interference), on the passenger seat behind the driver.
  • ~3 minutes into the the test the displays turned off.
  • ~8 minutes into the test the Gravity handles retracted.
  • ~15 minutes later I pushed the door handle. It didn’t immediately open. A few seconds later, I pushed it again, a bit harder. The handles presented and I was able to open the door.
  • I wish I had waited longer before pressing the handle a second time - it was just instinct to press again. I don’t know if the first press was needed to wake the car up, and the second press to open the door, or if I just didn’t press the handle hard enough the first time.
In any case, this is my 2nd controlled experiment with the 3.6.3 + 2.15.35 where everything worked. In my first experiment, I needed to press the handle only once.

Running? You mean you get out of the vehicle and leave it in gear? Are you feeling well? If you get out of the car and it’s in park you are not driving away without a key on your person, inside the car
Lucids don’t have a running state where the car is running but no one is in it
 
You can't get out and leave it in Drive...as soon as you open the door it shifts into Park

Put it in drive
Walk away
That’s the only way I know of to have the car “running “ while not in the car

I'm not even going to ask how it is you came to know that..it defies logic and common sense (...put it in drive, walk away?...seriously??)
especially if you're one of those drivers that switches the car into "Creep" every time you get in!
 
Very pleased to see this is possible.

I recently re-watched North by Northwest in one scene the bad guys prop a very drunk Cary Grant behind the wheel and roll the car forward toward a cliff's edge.

So, now if the movie is ever updated and remade, it will be possible to use a Lucid as the victim vehicle. (It might be a little problematic if ADAS is enabled, though.)

Yes on the latest software.. I will definitely try recreating the scenario like you did and advice the group what happens. I don't think she waited long enough to press the handle again because she realized that my key card was inside the house.
