Gravity DE Arbitration Victory

Yes their denial to me had a very belittling and aggressive tone and insisted they shouldn’t be held accountable for the time they spend doing QA on their own cars. You read that right. They insist they are allowed unlimited time to keep the car for their own QA purposes.

That’s how lawyers are, think they will just bend over? They will be aggressive and try not to lose a case. That’s what they get paid for.

Does Lucid blacklist customers who do a lemon law buyback like Tesla does? IOW, you could never buy new from them again?

I think it’s important to remember there’s always 2 sides to every story. I’m not dismissing the OP’s experience at all, if things happened as described, I’d be frustrated too. But while owners can publicly air every detail of an arbitration or service dispute, Lucid is never going to publicly comment on the specifics or defend their side of the story.

That imbalance naturally means the public only ever hears one narrative.

Lucid absolutely deserves criticism for service issues, communication, software bugs and overpromising features/timelines. I've been critical of those things myself. But I also think some people are taking every bad experience and turning it into “the company is doomed” or “delusional,” which feels excessive. Forums also naturally become concentrated with negative experiences because people with uneventful ownership experiences usually aren’t writing 10-page threads about how normal their Tuesday commute was. That doesn’t invalidate the OP’s situation, but context matters.

The few who have issues hijack the narrative. Constantly post repeatedly again and again and again. Blah blah blah

Though I sympathize with them, it’s not cool at all and unnecessary. Frankly, getting irritating! Just how I constantly posted about keys😀

They shouldn’t. But I’m sure the customers who win won’t buy another Lucid.

The Air is the best car I ever bought. Latest models are issue free, mostly. Maybe a small glitch here or there which is easily resolved by a software soft reset.

After 4 years, I STILL LOVE DRIVING IT AND EXCITED TO DRIVE IT.

Don’t deprive yourself of this magnificent feat of engineering because of past history. Recent updates has fixed everything.
Thank you, but: The car is the least of it. The real problem is the company. Software resets or updates cannot ever fix this.

What is the vin of the DE like that we knkw which one you had and don't buy it used.

It was DE # 375
It doesn’t make a difference, all of the Gravity out there are Lemons and were put out in the market before the software stack was ready. To date it’s still not ready. Don’t buy one.

And software greatly improved, stop spreading lies and hate….I hate liars, they are the worst people……

Move on dude, no need to lurk around on this form posting crap comments…..

Perhaps the word "all" was hyperbolic? Mine is not, so by definition, "all" does not apply...

Glad you achieved your desired outcome - I'm in #194 and am SO GLAD I get to drive a car like this - I smile and feel lucky every time I see it and drive it. YMDV 🤣

Sorry yours was bad but 23,000 miles on mine and by and large it's been amazing. Don't act like you talk for everyone. You got what you wanted out of this. You can move on now.

You’ve posted about your own experience which is valuable. However, please stop spreading disinformation just because the Gravity is not your cup of tea or you’ve had more problems than most. I’m a happy Gravity DE owner (DE #160), would absolutely purchase a Gravity again, and would recommend the Gravity to others.

You are correct about the software not being ready for prime time when first released, but the landscape today is very different. Every OTA update has improved the software stability and has given us additional capability.

I've had the opportunity to own two Lucid Airs. Both almost certainly guaranteed to be one of the first 1,000 to 1,500 off the manufacturing line.

As an early owner, I expected issues. We certainly had our share: bricked car post-update before trip, battery replacements, drive unit replacements, door handle replacements, multiple frunk realignments and latch replacements, trim replaced in multiple places, front leather dash replaced, sensors recalibrated, damaged leather replacements, steering wheel replacements, and so on. Believe me there have been additional issues here and there.

At one point, I had a GT-P loaner for nearly two months while they resolved issues in our GT.

Could I have lemon law'ed both cars? Probably.

Did I feel a need to or unsafe because of the issues? Never.

Lucid has always gone above and beyond with warranty issues for us through mobile visits, towing the car, loaners, and so forth. Given the issues resolved, they rarely come back once fully diagnosed and pinpointed in a very complex piece of machinery and software. You can have bad experiences on occasion because people are people and circumstances can be unique (try towing in southern Alabama or 1.5 hours out of Atlanta at 2300 in no man's land on I-20...).

The brand continues to be my first choice and overwhelming recommendation to everyone I meet. No company is perfect, but they make a lot of effort to ensure that the majority of your experience is positive.

After months of frustration, I’m incredibly grateful to share that I am officially out of my 2026 Lucid Gravity Dream Edition. While the initial promise of the vehicle was high, the reality of the ownership experience made this the least enjoyable vehicle lease I have ever done.

The Path to Rescission

My journey culminated in a formal BBB Auto Line arbitration hearing on April 20, 2026, where a full repurchase was granted. The Arbitrator ruled that the vehicle's defects—specifically a seizing Rear Drive Unit (RDU), recurring steering errors, and total key fob recognition failures substantially impaired its safety and value.

Why I Refused to Settle

Lucid initially attempted to circumvent the buyback process with a $7,500 "goodwill" cash offer to retain the vehicle. I declined this for several reasons:
  • Safety Over Settlement: A cash payout doesn't fix a steering rack that fails or an RDU that seizes while in motion.
  • The "Software" Loophole: Lucid argued at the hearing that major issues like the inaudible Bluetooth audio were "known software concerns" not covered by warranty.
  • Failed Updates: Even after the 3.5.1 "Voice Engine" update, the system remained unusable for professional, hands-free use.

The Rigor of Documentation

This win was the result of dozens of hours of research and preparation, including:
  • Legal Guidance: Consulting a Michigan Lemon Law attorney to navigate the 30-day out-of-service rule, which I ultimately met with 31 cumulative days in the shop. In addition the attorney gave me coaching on what ot expect and prepare for in the BBB Autoline arbitration process. I represented myself in the arbitration and Lucid sent an attorney representaive.
  • Data Archiving: Saving every text, email, video , pic time stamp and work order to prove that Lucid was aware of defects they failed to document formally.
  • Evidence Presentation: Building a comprehensive PowerPoint for the Arbitrator that visually rebutted Lucid's "successfully repaired" claims.

Lessons Learned: Hardware Alone is Not Enough

As a Lucid stock owner, I want this brand to succeed more than anyone. I’m not just a consumer; I’m an investor who believed in the vision. I wanted this to be the perfect 7-seat SUV—the one that finally proved an EV could handle a family’s needs without compromise. But after this nightmare purchase, it is clear that world-class hardware cannot save a vehicle with fundamentally broken software.

  • A "Software-Defined Vehicle" Must Actually Work: If the software layer fails, the entire driving experience falls apart. Whether it’s an RDU seizing due to sensor anomalies or a key fob that leaves you stranded for 20 minutes, the hardware’s performance is irrelevant if you can’t trust the car to start or steer safely.
  • Stop Making "Future Promises": The defense of "fixed in a future update" has become a hollow mantra. I was told for months that my issues were known software concerns with fixes on the way. Yet even after the 3.5.1 update, the system remained inaudible. Lucid needs to pause and get these core systems right before continuing to push the "Compromise Nothing" mantra.
  • Software Failures are Warranty Defects: Lucid argued that software issues aren't hardware defects and shouldn't count against them. The Arbitrator resoundingly rejected this: software is the heart of the vehicle. If it fails, the vehicle is non-conforming.
  • The Path Forward: Lucid has the best motors and efficiency in the world—that is why I am a shareholder. But they must shift their obsession from purely mechanical specs to the digital reliability that modern owners demand. Until "Compromise Nothing" applies to the code as much as the battery, they will continue to lose enthusiasts.

Moving On

The Arbitrator explicitly acknowledged the "anxiety, fear, and frustration" this vehicle caused my family. Because a "promise to fix" is not a repair, I chose to store the vehicle as of March 31st rather than risk further safety incidents.

I'm walking away with a full refund of my investment and, more importantly, my peace of mind. I hope my experience encourages other owners to hold Lucid to a standard that equates to the promise in which they brought this vehicle to market "Compromise Nothing"
WOW this is great and i have been facing the same issues and i have been chasing and dont know what to do "https://lucidowners.com/threads/100...-still-waiting-on-promises.15633/#post-343016"

  • Range issue: I’m consistently getting ~170–180 miles real-world on an 80% charge vs ~340 expected
  • Safety systems: Front/rear protection engages even when there’s no obstacle
  • TPMS: Incorrect tire pressure warnings even when all tires are at proper PSI
  • Auto park: Not reliable at all
  • Mobile key / Bluetooth: Car doesn’t unlock unless I manually open the app and reconnect
  • Android Auto: Slow and inconsistent

These are not “ real issues” ….just a reflection of your expectations which don’t seem to be realistic. You won’t get a lemon for this.

Going through the process now, would like to get some insight from you if possible.

Good luck.

Feel free to DM me

Have heard from several that after my loss Lucid took BBB arbitration more seriously and is defending it harder

It is concerning that owners who experience persistent issues with their Lucid vehicles often fail to disclose the VINs, leaving potential buyers in this forum unable to identify and avoid purchasing those specific pre-owned units, particularly regarding the Dream Edition.
