Gravity Bugs / Issues

Had a fairly significant software glitch last night on 3.6.0 and I’m curious whether anyone else has experienced something similar.

I was leaving a public parking lot when another vehicle started backing toward me. I gave a brief precautionary honk to get the driver’s attention (which, if I’m not mistaken, should also trigger Halo recording).

Shortly after pulling onto the main road, several systems appeared to fail simultaneously:
  • The right side of the Clearview Cockpit (where CarPlay normally displays) showed only the Lucid logo and froze.
  • The entire Pilot Panel also switched to a Lucid logo screen and became unresponsive.
  • Music from my phone suddenly started playing at a very high volume (kids started to dance on the 2nd row, so some fun in it for sure)
  • Neither the steering wheel volume controls nor the Pilot Panel volume knob would adjust the volume.
  • Ambient lighting on the doors appeared to be completely off.
  • Auto headlights and front collision protection appeared disabled per Clearview Cockpit indicators
  • The vehicle remained drivable, but the affected displays and controls were essentially frozen.
Fortunately, traffic was at a standstill (people leaving Brandenton Beach area after sunset), so I was able to safely shift into Park and perform a soft reboot (man, that felt weird doing this on public road ,but music was starting to deafen me). After the reboot completed, everything returned to normal.

What struck me was how many systems seemed to be affected at the same time: CarPlay/display rendering, the Pilot Panel, audio controls, and ambient lighting. That makes me wonder whether a common software service crashed rather than this being an isolated CarPlay issue.

I’ve already reported it to Lucid's swfeedback email (no automatic answer this time though) and provided approximate timestamps and my VIN so they can pull logs if available.

Has anyone else seen anything similar on 3.6.0?
I’ve had both the pilot panel and the main screen where nav/audio etc (on the right side) switch to the bear logo for a brief second sometimes when I first switch the UI. Example: car starts up on Nav and I select climate control, black screen with bear pops up and then goes away. But nothing like what you described.

Mines been really stable the last 2 to 3 releases, everything just works as intended. I don't use CarPlay so maybe that's the outlier but I do have CarPlay connected for calls basically. I've also noticed significant improvement on the key with this update, 100% success (touch wood). I did have one issue on a trip with hand-free where every 10 mins or so it would just disable with "Sensors Blocked" message and then 5 or 10 mins later the error would clear but it was only on one trip and hands-free has been fine on all my other trips.

Overall, extremely happy with the state of the software over the last 6 months.

The thing is - mine's generally stable too. No fob issues since 3.3.X era. But when these kinds of glitches happen - it really throws you off and makes you trust the vehicle a bit less, unfortunately....

My partner and I do a yearly 1800 mile road trip from San Diego CA to Denver CO and back every summer. Over the last few years we’ve driven a Tesla Model X and a Lucid Air GT. This year, we will be taking the Gravity GT.

This is also the first year I find myself wondering if the Gravity will “glitch out” along the way, the first time I’ve entertained such thoughts about any car I’ve owned. A pity, really.

I can empathize with this a lot. Ever since our Land Rover left us stranded on a remote highway for 12 hours, I’ve had fears of being stranded. I signed up for AAA the next day after that happened. Just have to roll the dice and enjoy the vehicle. I really think a lot of the complaints are a small sampling and the vast majority of us enjoy error free driving with our Lucid’s.

About that error free driving…
Background on me is I ordered a Gravity GT, had it built and delivered to the Denver “dealer” late last year. But due to all the software issues at that time, I walked away from my $1000 deposit. Today I test drove a Rivian R2, which is overall a very nice vehicle and I am sure will be quite successful for them. But it feels a bit ponderous and floaty, and I can’t see being satisfied driving it. So the Gravity is still what I want (R1 has the same issue as the R2, only worse due to its size).

I know the Gravity software has improved substantially since late last year, but I really need a car that WORKS. I can live with poor nav, or a music app connectivity issues, but I can’t live with “doors won’t open, windows won’t close, car won’t start”, etc. So, just reaching out to get more perspective on how the community is feeling. Has Lucid turned the corner on the Gravity software issues? Does it now seem to GENERALLY function like a real car should? Are people mostly happy with the car now? I still really want one and nothing else compares hardware wise.

Yes, you should be good to go from a software standpoint. The latest update (3.6.0) has fixed most of the problems (honestly, I can't really think of any off the top of my head that still remain). I don't foresee you having any of the above mentioned major issues. Even if you were have something like an occasional keyfob quirk, it's really no big deal as you can just pull out your phone and unlock the doors and start the car now that they've baked in reliable redundancies.

I think you'll be fine. The couple of early software issues I've had appear to be completely resolved. It's been a great car.

Thanks for the replies, this is great to hear. I would love to hear more good reports!

Functions fine for us. One caveat: my mobile app has not working since delivery and I have a mobile service appointment scheduled for it as well as customer service assuring me the next update “within a few weeks” should fix the error. They let me know I’m not the only one.

This small issue aside, the vehicle has functioned completely fine for 4k miles now. No mechanical issues at all. We’re very happy with it and I recommend it to everyone.

You will be fine. There are still some teething issues but nothing that will drive you crazy, imho.

It's a great driving experience, like a sportscar that you can fit all your stuff in really. It's stupid quick, handles way better than most SUVs, and isn't hungry for charging all the time.

It's also been reliable for me. I've not had a single time where I couldn't hop in and drive off and my fob has always worked as intended (though I wish they'd give us a "car is locked" confirming chirp!!) It's still on same the battery I replaced the one it came with with; so not eating fob batteries either.

"EVentually", service centers will clear their backlogs and access will improve at least until Cosmos is released, we'll all see what the situation is then...

i'm having a drive unit error. service scheduled. cross your fingers for me.

I will say this. This thread used to be lit up like a Christmas tree daily. Literally. There minute by minute posts about the fob, random errors, etc. It’s amazing to see it’s really nowhere near as active as it was.

Yes, work still to be done, but wow, it’s come a long way.

Window regulators more reliable now!

Not so sure about that. I just got my car back from service and one of the regulators was just replaced (again) and it still has the same issue. I’m told it’s actually some sort of software issue (maybe). My other window still has an issue after two new regulators. Thankfully, they both work (eventually) but they go up vs down and vice versa…so…regulators do not seem to have improved (YMMV).

My comment was to make fun of your early travails.
Had no idea that the saga had continued.

It’s MUCH better now, to be fair! The windows go up and down now. Much better than driving around with cardboard over my window back in the day! 🤣

It's definitely improved a lot, but how much seems to vary by vehicle. I still get the occasional window bug not wanting to close (goes up then back down). I still get a random phantom error message pop up on the screen once a month or so. My internet connectivity still goes out occasionally close to home (leaving me without audio, although Android Auto often saves that through the phone). Most of all, my fob routinely is 5-20 seconds late to open the doors, leaving me just standing there waiting for it to respond. It always does, eventually, within 20 seconds. Never gotten locked out of the car and doubt I even will. And there's only some of us that have that issue now. But it's still hanging about for some.

To Lucid's credit, they are sending out updates trying to fix all these bugs every few months. It's still a work in progress, but I'd say they're 70-90% of the way there (some cars have improved more than others).

Mine still refuses to go all the way up at times on first attempt. Usually does after 2-3 attempts. Or if I open the door to raise it then just close the door.

It would probably happen more, but I almost never lower the windows. That's why A/C exists. 😎
