Have you been locked out of your Lucid Gravity with the key fob and key card and phone in the vehicle?

Have your children or any other passengers or pets been locked in the vehicle unable to get out?

Please comment on this thread if you have.

Tonight was the second instance where I was locked out of my Gravity, but this time my kids were inside. I drove home, parked in the garage, got out of the driver’s side, closed the driver’s side door and the vehicle immediately locked with a quick double honk / beep, with the fob, keycard and my phone inside, along with my two small daughters (3 year old and 5 month old).

The only reason my car was not cut open by the fire department’s jaws of life is that my husband left his key card home while on a business trip, and I was at home.

I want you to imagine this same circumstance at 3 pm, in central California where it’s over 100 degrees, with no spare key card in reach, you stop to charge your vehicle somewhere along the highway at a supercharging station, but no one else is around to even borrow their phone.

Did you know the windows of the Gravity are laminated acoustic glass so they can’t be broken out?

Did you press in the door handle? If you do, it will unlock.

Pressing the door handle is also a way to lock the car, so it’s possible you did that when you closed the door.

Frightening... so sorry to hear. I'm so paranoid with this car doing that to me that I always keep the fob and card in my pocket.
What Borsky said about pushing the handle is true. It could also be that it momentarily stopped recognizing the fob (as in when you stand next to it and it doesn't unlock).
Glad to hear you were able to use the second card
 
I have locked myself out with the fob still in the car while washing it but it was easy to go in the house to get my phone and use the app to open it.

I can see how this was a WAY more serious thing for you with your key card AND cellphone also inside, thus locking your children in there...wow!
Makes me glad my wife has the other key card!!
 
Is this kind of problem (i.e., car self-locked when keys/hone/card) are inside) unique to Lucid? Yes, I experienced this in my Air before. I don't think this problem exists on my other cars.
 
If you have an Apple Watch, the Lucid app on your watch can also unlock the car.

I’m sorry that happened but I’ve never been locked out of a car like that. I just done ever leave all means of access inside the car and get out. Please don’t set yourself up for this unfortunate situation. Keep one of those key cards at least on your person.
 
So I got out of the car and close the door, because we park in the garage, there isn’t much space and it’s necessary and natural in order to move around the vehicle.

1. I don’t believe I pressed the door handle as I shut the door, but that is quite possibly what triggered the car to lock.

2. I did press the door handles to try to unlock the car after it locked, but it did not work for me to unlock the vehicle, I believe because the keys were inside.

3. Every other vehicle with a proximity detected key will not lock when it detects the key in the car after you exit the car. This problem is very unique to Lucid.

I hear you all on being careful to keep my key fob or key card on my person at all times, but I must say that is not a foolproof solution - I actually have been paranoid and doing that (and only trusting the fob and keeping it in my pocket, and leaving the windows down or door open to prevent getting locked out) because this is the second time this has happened to me, and it scared the **** out of me the first time.

But look, I am a mom with two little ones, often solo with them, and it is common practice to keep keys in a safe place like a purse or diaper bag which ends up in the back of the vehicle.

It should not be possible for this to happen. I am so convinced of this because of the glaringly obvious safety issue that I looked for an NHTSA requirement for vehicle manufacturers - I still cannot believe one doesn’t exist, but according to Google they leave it up to the manufacturer when it comes to proximity keys. So that is one thing on my to do list now, to contact the NHTSA.

The first lock out experience I had was with my phone and the fob was in the car: it should not be possible that I could not unlock my car with my phone after locking it with my phone (when I was locked out the first time, no kid in the car because I would never leave my kid in the car and lock it).

But you can imagine a parent putting a shopping cart away at a grocery store and the kids are in the car feet away, but the car locks you out?

I tried to unlock by pressing the door handles, but it wouldn’t. I think that is because the keys were inside the vehicle, and that is expected behavior - if you were in the car with the doors locked, to prevent carjacking and vehicle theft.

After exiting the vehicle, locking the driver out immediately is not expected behavior.

My wife hat this with an Seat Ateca 8 years ago, but luckily no kids inside. The 2nd key openend the car again. So it can happen to other cars as well.

Thread 'Car locked with child inside and would not unlock'

I’ve defended Lucid for a long time. This is actually my second Lucid Air in 3 years, and I’ve tried to be patient with all the software glitches, key issues, random bugs, and “it’ll get fixed in an update” stuff.

But yesterday honestly was the worst for me.

I was driving home with my 1.5-year-old in the back seat. He had finally fallen asleep listening to his favorite lullaby through CarPlay. Right before we got home, CarPlay randomly disconnected out of nowhere and stopped playing. Would not connect back at all. He’s a super light sleeper, so he immediately woke up crying.

I pulled...

Can't you also call customer support (from someone else's phone obviously) for lockout support? Pretty sure they can remotely unlock the car.

They (customer support) can remotely unlock your car. I've done that before. However, if you phone is locked inside, or you are in an area that doesn't have good cell coverage, you are SOL!

1. Yes, but- in the first instance when I was locked out I called them and they were unable to remotely unlock the car. Yes, quite serious- they could not remotely unlock the car. They claimed that the vehicle had poor cellular signal and that is why they couldn’t.

2. Imagine you’re somewhere without anyone nearby to borrow a phone from?

3. Ok great, you get lucky and someone comes by, you call Lucid. Whoops, they can’t remotely unlock the car.

4. The first responders you call are 20 minutes out or more. Your kids are in the car.

Look there is no universe in which the car should be automatically locking with the keys and phone inside.

My wife would say the same. The Apple/Samsung/Smart Watch then is the best option if the possibility exists that you’d have to leave all forms of keys in the car. You can use the Lucid app and once Phone as Key comes, it will work off the watch as well. Worth the investment then for peace of mind.

No, this is not unique to Lucid. My Model X has done this as well with the phone key inside of it on the OEM charging pad, but in that case, pressing the door handle on the Model X didn't even unlock it. Luckily, one of our dogs was active at the commotion going on outside of the car, and ended up jumping from window to window and ended up rolling the windows down with her paws.

@BS8899 this is not unique at all to Lucid. Seen it happen to other vehicles from other brands as well.
 
There should be a delay to auto lock after getting out. Clearly a software bug.
