When I took delivery of my Gravity and again when it was in service back in March Lucid filled the tires to 45 psi. I noticed they were down to 42/41 when I got home from a long drive and was going to top them up but I looked at the door panel it lists the tire pressure as 42 psi.

So now I'm curious why Lucid keeps filling them to 45psi. Is that the pressure for one of the other wheel/tire size combos? They don't list them in the manual at all and tell you to just look at the door card for it.
 
Mine were filled to 45 as well. (21/22) Recommended is also 42, but i fill them to 46 cold for better range and wear, at the slight expense of a smoother ride. Well worth it to me.
 
Same as on the Air; 42 is better for ride quality, 45 is better for potholes and such. It’s just personal preference.

I keep mine at 42 on the Air; Peter R was fond of keeping them at 45. YMMV.
 
Thanks guys, I'm probably going to put them back up to 45 but I wasn't sure why Lucid themselves were doing it.

When my car was delivered the, tires were closer to 48-50... According to the service guy, this is intentional from the factory to avoid getting "flat spots" on the tires if they sit undriven for an extended period of time on the lot or during shipping. I wasn't even aware that was "a thing" to worry about if a car sits for too long. Don't shoot the messenger!
 
Is there a reason not to follow the manufacturer’s recommendation, even if the service center inflates them to higher? I always put them back to 42 psi, as per the tire pressure printed on the driver’s door.

It’s a good idea to regularly check your tire pressure, especially as temperature/seasons change. Use an accurate tire pressure gage, though! I got the JACO Elite Pro digital, the 100 psi version as it’s more accurate than the 200 psi version. The pressure bleed is very nice to have.

Just depends on what feel you prefer. At a higher PSI they are less prone to harm by a road hazard (potholes, etc.) and they drive a little differently at 45 than at 42.

Try both and see what you prefer. I prefer 42.

Won’t this affect tread wear and impact the ideal contact patch?

When I had soft performance tires on my previous cars (they only lasted 5k-8k miles on a heavy EV), being off a few psi affected the tread wear. Over-inflated tires got bald in the center and under-inflated tires got bald on the sides. That taught me to follow the manufacturer’s recommendation and adjust pressure as the seasons change. It also taught me to stop buying the highest performance tires for daily driving - replacing tires every 5-8k miles got old, fast 🤣.
 
I can't speak to contact patch, but over the many years I have been driving, I have always run my tires with a 10% higher inflation pressure than recommended. In that time, I have received excellent tire wear (all seasons), excellent fuel economy/efficiency, and no tire issues. I have 7k miles on my Gravity at present. I recently used a tread depth guage and checked all 4 tires across their width, and the wear is perfectly even. (21/22 Michelin). If you are looking for performance or tracking your car, then none of this would apply. However, for daily driving and road tripping, I find this works out quite we'll.

Theoretically, yes. Practically, in my experience, no.

YMMV, of course.
