Is Lucid nerfing power output?

2026 Gravity GT
Currently the GT runs 3.2-3.4s to 60, but one would think the Gravity GT should break into the high 2s. A rivian R1s tri motor with 850hp does 2.9 and it weighs like 600+ lbs more than a gravity. Looking at most drag tests, the Gravity always appears slower off the line, then starts to build speed and catch up on the high end. It would appear that there is more in the tank but Lucid is conservatively tuning for traction and a more natural feel, by limiting power at low speeds. I wonder if it will be possible, either via official or aftermarket software update to get the full raw power and get in the 2s. Wonder if smaller wheels/better tires would help.
 
I do think this is something they could easily change with software, but they are trying to prevent wheel spin-out. It's possible they will keep tweaking it. They could try lowering the front like the R1S does. I'm really hoping to see a Gravity Sapphire one day, but right now they need to focus on profitability

Better quoted 0-60 times would help sell the car :) but yeah the R1S with its offroad-ish wheel/tire/suspension setup you would think should be worse than a gravity

This is due to the gearing. The gearing is tuned to give acceleration at 60-80 mph for passing vs high torque at 0-30 mph and anemic passing torque at 60-80 mph.

Yup, there is reason the Gravity smokes the R1S after 60 and in every other performance metric...they didn't just go for 0-60, which at this point who cares, every cheap Chinese EV can be tuned for that....

This is right, Lucid tuned the torque curve on both Air and Gravity for great acceleration at higher speeds. I like this choice since it makes Gravity great at passing on two lane highways.
 
Sure but who can use the speed over about 80mph. No one's taking their family at 100+mph in a gravity or tracking it. The most people will do are 0-60 on-ramp pulls or 1/4 mile runs for fun. No ones doing top speed runs for fun, so gearing for top end might be questionable. Winning 0-60 is a marketing/sales game also. Rivian caps their top speed at like 112-130mph and buyers dont care.
 
The real reason Gravity is "slower" at lower speed is during that part of acceleration much of the weight is being transferred to the rear tyres with front motor not doing much.
This is why Sapphire can accelerate much faster than dual motor Air DEP with just a little more HP.
 
I would argue the same amount of people tracking it are there taking it to a drag strip for 1/4. You can use the passing power from 30mph up to 80mph all day on any road or highway and not have sketchy handling at the same time...

When I’m on a two-lane highway stuck behind a slow car doing 55 mph in a 65 mph zone, I want to hit 75 mph as fast as possible and minimize my time in the oncoming lane, especially if I see a car coming toward me in the distance.

I remember the days trying to do this in my ICE vehicle and silently yelling at my car to “go go go” as the engine revs up. I get into this game of falling back and building up speed, trying to time the pass. High pucker factor, sometimes 🤣.

There's more than enough speed to pass from 40-80mph, even if you take a bit away, and im sure a rivian has no trouble passing either.. I only need like half throttle most times unless you want to hit jail-time speeds

If you want more right from the start, will switching to Sprint mode help?
 
As someone that owned a Rivian, I think that the drive ratio has one of the largest parts to play in this. My R1 S topped out at 112 mph. It absolutely would not drive faster.
Also, I feel like it has a lot to do with software and software limiting the vehicles. If you think about it, there is zero difference physically between a GT air and a GT air performance and a GT dream edition. Everything in those vehicles physically is the same. The only difference is the programming.
Which led me to my very first post asking people what they pay for the ability to upgrade the performance in your vehicle. Would you pay to upgrade the 0 to 60 time in a gravity? I sure would.

That’s not quite true. In the Air, the DE has a different front or rear motor (I can’t remember tbh) with more exotic metallurgy, which is part of why it can do more.

The GT-P and GT are separated only by software, yes.

I thought they were all the same… are you 100% on this? So the DE motors have higher output potential?

Emad in the Munro live video said they have a slightly different bus bar (the green bars) arrangement for more powerful motor.

People do this all the time in ICE vehicles with ECU tunes in the aftermarket....
 
To add to all the other tangential discussions, Rivian came up with RAD, BMW has M, Mercedes has AMG, Porche has GT, Lucid is under using Sapphire. They could easily make a few extra bucks selling serious performance trims and enhancements. My ideal Air is actually a RWD pure with the Sapphire Michelin tires and suspension and 500hp. Performance unlocks. Suspension tunes for the Air suspension since the vehicles are SDV and most modules can have different tunes....
