Car locked with child inside and would not unlock

Lucid “ I dont care” its been nearly 5years and they cant fix this. Similar situation yesterday, my kid got into the car after grocery shopping, i loaded my trunk and closed it. Car got locked and i need to do a circus around the car to get it unlocked. I got used to lock and unlock issues and financially there is no way around to get rid of this car.
Lucid dont care to listen to owners and they keep saying will be fixed in OTA OTA OTA. I think this issue is mostly with cars having two driver profiles.
I don't know if it happens more often in cars with two or more driver profiles. But I only have one profile and it happens to me too

Spoiler: They dont care. If not, this would have been addressed by now. Even with losing sales, hitting 52week low every week. At this point i believe they dont care what we owners are suffering.
This is simply not true. @marqie would not be active on the forum if Lucid did not care. @hmp10 would not get personal calls from Emad is Lucid did not care. Lucid clearly does care. This is not to say that Lucid should have improved the unlocking behavior of the Air by now. Even with that said, using PAAK or the fob has been 100% for me. I do sometimes have to wake my phone up for the doors to unlock but that is about 2 seconds.

I am very sorry you had this terrible, terrible moment.

Today, in May 2026, the best solution is for Lucid to get rid of autolock and unlock ,phone as a key, proximity detection and anything that doesn't involve pressing the fob button to lock and unlock the car. All those things are minor conveniences at best, and pale in comparison to the experience of locking your freaking kid in the car. They have failed to make it work for 3 years now and should just end the services, make sure the pressing the FOB button works 100% of the time, then restore them when they get their shit together.

They should also make the default door handle position "out" when the car is in park.
I understand your point and, given Lucid's history, I don't necessarily disagree with you. My personal believe about the door/lock/unlock problem is, the problem lies inside the car's electronics on how these lock/unlock signals are arbitrated. I might be totally wrong, but that's my hunch.

That said, other manufacturers were able to make these devices (FOB, PAAK, key card, etc.) all work harmoniously. Why can't Lucid do that?!

Yes, I only have one profile. This is clearly a safety issue and NHTSA would swing into action with a complaint, which is inevitable. Time for Lucid to fix this once and for all.

So your saying with passive lock turned off, your Air locks by itself? I've had problems entering (more often than I like) but I've never seen the car lock itself (with passive lock turned off). The handles do retract after a while (when they do there can be a delay getting them to present) but with the passove lock turned off I don't think what happened to the original poster would have happened. Once the car is unlocked it stays unlocked, handle retraction takes more time than I take for grocery shopping.
Yup even when set not too. Then becomes unresponsive to handle press. It’s a real problem.

I use exclusively mobile key. It eventually works 100% of the time. I’ve never had to revert to the app or the plastic card, which I do keep in my wallet just in case.

But I’ll be the first to admit that the implementation is far less than optimal. Very often I have to pull my phone out of my pocket, sometimes it’s immediate, sometimes it takes 10 or 15 seconds. But I’ve never had a completely fail. I do find it ridiculous that here we are in mid-2026 and they still haven’t implemented an improvement to it or complete replacement. This has been a known problem since the car was first released. I know that they are focused on the midsize and the Gravity but this is the ONE thing, if anything, that needs to be fixed immediately on the Air. But it hasn’t. I find that to be the most disappointing of anything about the car. It literally decreases how much I like the car on a daily basis. I complained way back in 2022 that when I put my grandson in the passenger side rear seat and I walk around to the driver side, by the time I get there the car is locked and it won’t unlock for way too long. Completely unacceptable.

My wife, who works in law-enforcement, also finds it unacceptable that the car does not have a preference where only the driver‘s door unlocks. She says having all the doors unlock simultaneously can be a safety risk. Every car I’ve owned over the last decade or more has had this option available except the Lucid.

This is my greatest disappointment with the Air and the company.

Unfortunately, I see a parallel here… Tesla let the Model S die, made very few improvements to it, and focused on their more popular and profitable models. I totally get it from a corporate point of view. But that doesn’t help me when I approach my $140,000 luxury car with a grandkid in each arm, and the car won’t unlock until I put somebody down on the ground and fish my phone out of my pocket.

Lucid, if you were listening, this problem alone will prevent me from buying another Air to replace my current Air when the time comes which will most likely be in 2027.

Very well said.

What do you make of the recent poll on this forum about on this subject (door lock/unlock). The last time I looked at the poll, there were almost 70 people responded. Of those, quite a few have encountered locking/unlocking problems. These problems have been around for a long time (years/Air/Gravity). I think the "they-don't-care" perception, real or un-real, arose from a lack of response from Lucid (other than blaming the FOB manufacturer).

So, given many people now agree this is a safety concern, will @marqie/Emad address this issue?

Oh I think they care, a lot. But I don’t think they have the ability to fix it at the moment, or they would.

I care about a lot of things and do nothing at all about most of them. Caring isn’t really enough, is it?

Well, we (Lucid and its owners) went around and around for (Literally) years now about this issue.

Lucid doesn't have a handle on it? Granted that there are some defective FOBs, I keep wondering if it is just a FOB issue. Months ago, I posted my concerns about just declaring this a defective FOB issue. I don't know what it is. But I'd hope someone at Lucid can figure it out.

That's my conclusion as well. Even if they don't care about the owners (which I don't think is true) the various lock/fob issues are a huge black eye for the company, attracting bad press, and clearly losing them some sales (including from me). They'd fix the problem if they could. My hope is that the change in leadership now has them focused on the issue, and that there will be some substantial improvement this year. But who knows, and obviously Lucid is still in a mode of trying to avoid talking much about the issue publicly.

We are all just armchair troubleshooters here, but I wonder if it’s more than the fobs and something about the authentication servers etc that they use. For example the way accounts are tracked required a manual reset by Lucid. Switching profiles in the cars is hard too. It could all be tied to telematics too. If the vehicle is trying to authenticate the fobs or mobile phone app, and it’s getting delayed, it could look like the fob doesn’t work but that isn’t the issue.

Idk I have no idea. I know my handle issues got progressively worse; they replaced most of them; now none of them work. But also the car doesn’t really wake up anymore either, by app or by handle press. Strangely, I can hear the car is awake, it’s powering on, but the handles will not respond. The app says the car is offline and asleep but I’m looking at it and it’s awake. I think? Baffling.

I use mobile key because it is most convenient. It is not always the most reliable but I'm willing to give Lucid some slack because I believe that the phone is often the culprit too. My iPhone is much more reliable than my android (Samsung). Other Bluetooth functions (like Quick Share) don't work 100% of the time on my Samsung, so it seems reasonable that you could extrapolate that to the car connection. Obviously, this is a hard to fix from Lucid's end.

My experience with the car fob is that it has always worked - except when the battery is low/dead. I urge the OP to start using the fob (if not already doing so) for their peace of mind. I hope that they find it as reliable as most of the forum users. There are people who complain that the fob doesn't work consistently for them. That is more problematic and really should be a small group with the majority being defective fobs or antenna issues. I'm not a tech person, but that's my reasoning.

I don't know either. But I serious doubt it is just the FOB. The car is sitting there sniffing (or not") the signals around it. If my phone has both my Lucid and Rivian key in it, does that confuse the Lucid? My Rivian was never confused. If I carry my phone, my FOB, and my key card, could there be a contention/arbitration problem in Lucid's brain? Again, I don't know.

I'd think that someone at Lucid must have contemplated all these scenarios.

I also only use the PAAK mobile key. I don't even carry the fob. It works 100% of the time. It is quite sensitive to lock and unlock though. So i am not surprised to hear that the OP's car locked while they walked around the vehicle. THat happens to me too. But it also opens up right away for me, I have never had it not respond.

I guess I've been lucky. I will occassionally run errands with no phone or fob, relying on the car not locking at the various places I stop. Sometimes it will delay at opening but it never locks.

With passive lock off the car never locks. Its how I leave it at home. If I need to move it while mowing the lawn, I press the door handle, get in, enter the pin and drive. No phone, no fob needed. If I drive somewhere where it needs to be locked I press the door handle after exitting (first making sure I have the fob).
