RangeXchange is Lucid’s proprietary V2V charging feature that allows Lucid vehicles (Air or Gravity) to share energy from their battery with other electric vehicles. Using the optional RangeXchange charging adapter, together with your Lucid Mobile Charging Cable, you can initiate energy-sharing sessions to power up other EVs in a pinch, providing a helpful energy boost when a charger may not be available.

The Lucid RangeXchange adapter for both J1772 (Lucid Air only) and NACS (Lucid Gravity only) can be purchased in the Lucid Store.

what an odd technology to have spent time and money developing. What is the use case here? A...Tesla...needs to get charged by a Lucid? Slowly?

I guess if you are going to charge another ev? ;)

Honestly I imagine this would be useful going on longer roadtrips. I love traveling to remote areas and if I could help another traveler in need I would love that.

You can also charge up a portable battery that accepts an ev charger-style input, eg. Ecoflow or Anker Solix F3000 with their cable adaptor. Not tremendously efficient because of the DC->AC conversion, but useful during an outage and less expensive than other standalone backup battery solutions.

It’s not a new feature; it’s a new knowledge base article.

I’ve used it to give my wife some juice when she forgot to charge one morning, and was at work.

I’ve saved two EVs on the road.

Someone else on the forums uses their free charging at work and then goes home to siphon some charge their SO’s EV.

Someone I talked to used it to charge their friend’s Chevy a few times on a road trip because their range was that much less.

Lots of use cases.

This could help break through to commercial then maybe. Instead of tanks in pickup beds.
 
I've used our RangeXChange several times to charge up my wife's EV during peak electricity rate periods when we needed to do so. I'd previously topped off the Air using "free" excess solar PV energy. The Air was useful as a load shifting battery.
 
A better use case would be to produce a V2L adapter that gives you a 120V plug to use. Please make it happen!
The Tesla mobile adapter has that at 12 amps. Will that work on a Gravity?

Charging my wife’s Volvo off the Gravity using the NACS adapter and RangeXChange cable I had from my Air. I’m the one with free charging at work and I’ll use it to charitably donate electrons to my wife’s car at home. Many times we just still plug in at home due to convenience but when both our cars are at home at the same time and I’ve got excess charge I’ll just charge her car off mine.

Lots of other EVs can do this and it has several use cases. Charging another EV during high price charging times at home. Charging another stuck EV, 40 miles per hour of charging is significant range to give another vehicle stuck a few miles from a charging station. It also turns Lucid's into backup batteries to other V2H capable EVs in power outages, if like out V2H capable EV9, when the EV9 battery runs low, the Lucid (instead of just sitting there looking pretty) can recharge the EV9 to keep the home running. Of course, it would be great if Lucid could do V2H, but maybe that will come a bit later too.

At the time she had a Volvo XC40 Recharge, with about 240 miles of range. She tried to charge while up there but many chargers were full and there was a line, so I met her and we took the Lucid to see the Eclipse, and she didn’t have enough range to make it back home, but because I’d charged on the way up the Lucid with vastly superior range had enough for me to use the RangeXChange and give her the extra 40 miles of range she needed to get home and for me to still get home over 10%. So we just sat at a rest stop while I charged her as we looked at all the other sad EV owners who had been waiting in line for a very long time to charge.

Funny bc we experienced a similar situation during the eclipse up in IL. I had planned on using the nearby Tesla smart dock charger to where we were watching and when we got there the line was INSANE! 2-3 hours at least. We had very little battery left but luckily there was a Circle K charger about 7 miles away that we made it to and nobody else was there. If we had a Lucid back then, sure could have used that feature!

Any stuck car might need enough to get them going to next charger… I have never run out of power but it makes sense to be prepared to help others. The charger net isn’t fully built out yet.
