yes, but may be crucial in a crunch!

If you are in a remote area, there's a nearby Supercharger, it's a holiday weekend and the CCS chargers have a line, and possibly an hour wait, a Supercharger could help.

Will it require a Lucid-specific adapter, or would any CCS-NACS adapter do?

Lucid did it again ( or Tesla restricted it) The catch? Charging is limited to just 50 kW, compared to 300+ kW at CCS Ultra‑Fast chargers. You will be sItting there for hours (at least an hour) while Tesla's a taking 10-15 min to charge up to 300+kW and off they go. I am tired of promises and then underdelivering.

Are you trolling?

Anybody know how long it takes to go from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in a Touring at 50kw at a Supercharger?

About 1 hour.

No, I am not. Read their anouncement. It is a fact. I am just continuously suffering from 2022 with Lucid Air GT issues and underdelivering on their promises. I posted it 2 times by mistake

Yikes! Thx for the 411. I better keep looking for a working EA fast charger!
Will probably take you over an hour to find one 😂

Lucid promised nothing when it came to Superchargers. They designed the car when the Tesla network was closed off and all the other chargers that the Air could use were already offering 1000V chargers where the Air could make use of its high speed charging. Tesla stayed behind and kept deploying 500V chargers which from day 1 Lucid has always said the Air would only charge at 50kW on those chargers.

You want someone to blame, blame EA for making the network so unreliable that they basically forced automakers to run to Tesla and do a deal.

Lucid designed the cars with a 900+ volt architecture at a time when Tesla's charging network was closed to other manufacturers, and the connectors were incompatible. Since then, Tesla has announced, but not deployed, V4 Superchargers that caught up with CCS and can deliver the voltage needed for fast charging.

In the meantime, Tesla has outdated V3 Superchargers with voltage that is too low for more modern cars, but will give you reasonable speed with a Tesla and its outdated 400V architecture.

The Gravity was designed later and released after Tesla opened up the network, so Lucid designed it so that it could use a motor to boost the voltage when used with outdated Superchargers.

It would make no sense for Lucid to go back and try to retrofit technology to make up for Tesla's slow deployment. Lucid obviously designed the cars for fast charging, and it's Tesla's limitation. Lucid could not have designed it to be compatible with a system that it knew couldn't be used, because it made no sense. Tesla gave no indication that they would open up the network years later, or make their connector a public standard.

Where does one acquire a Lucid approved adapter?

Guys, this is a good thing. Just one more option for us. Don't use it if you don't want to.

That was a problem, but most EA chargers I've used since I bought the car have been reliable. The exception was at locations with physically broken connectors. They show up in apps as available, people go to that location thinking that there's no crowd, and there ends up being a long line. I don't know whether people are not reporting them or EA is not flagging them when reported.

A bigger problem as I see it is that EA decided to have far more locations, but with few chargers per location. That makes it impossible to plan a route and select EA chargers along the way and have any expectation that the availability you see in the app will have anything to do with what will be the case when you get there. And one charger down in a location that has four is a significant problem.

Tesla has fewer locations, but might have 100 chargers at a given freeway exit. So if it comes down to driving from one EA location to another, giving up and waiting in line for an hour, then a Supercharger will be faster. Plus, by not waiting around for someone to leave, you can go eat and come back when the car is charged.

Tesla is far from ideal.
