Plan C: Vinfast VF9... Worth the risk?
My quick review of the Vinfast VF9, which I just Turoed for a few days. This car wasn't on my radar, but but it's a real 6-7 seat full electric that is available now...

Vinfast is a Vietnamese EV startup that markets itself as an upscale option at a bargain price: 4wd and 400 hp, panoramic roof, wireless carplay, heads up display and 300 miles of range all for $63k or $449 plus tax and fees for a 24 month/ 10k lease. All of which is true, but... Pros and cons:
Pro: Lots of tech for the price: a heads up display integrated with Carplay shows directions on the screen, etc. Con: it's buggy: it takes 15 seconds to boot the car, I was too tall to see the full HUD without scooching down (6'4"), the wireless phone charger didn't work, the steering wheel adjustment didn't work.
Pro: Decent battery and a real-world ~275 mile measured range at lower highway speeds. Con: Slowish "fast" charging: we saw 150 kW on EA when it worked, not yet on Tesla superchargers.
Pro: Nice ride and suspension. I preferred it to the Rivian (more road tuned, doesn't porpoise) Con: very synthetic electric power steering.
Pro: Decently quick if you're used to a Camry. Con: Doesn't feel like 400 hp, particularly if you come from electrics. Poorly calibrated throttle, especially at parking lot speeds.
Pro: 80% of the interior seems moderately up scale- not Audi or Rivian, but better than Tesla for things like dash materials, etc. Con: the other 20% lets it down- some bits feel base rental car cheap.
Pro: Looks decent outside- we were stopped by a Porsche Macan driver to ask about it. Con: Fit and finish is wanting- some plastic exterior snap bits were opening up, betraying build quality issues.
Pro: Serious passenger space, easily swallowed 4 adults and 2 kids for a 3.5 hour road trip. Con: very small luggage space- it has a frunk and under rear floor storage, but it feel 1/4 of the size of the Rivian, while cargo space behind the rear seats is
tight when they are up.
Pro: Comes with a key fob. Con: needs the key fob to unlock/ lock, sometimes you need to hit the button multiple times.
Overall while this car would like to be a Lucid/ Rivian competitor it feels more like it's punching up towards GM. But it drives well enough and it's cheap enough that it'd be on my radar to lease if it met our needs better (it doesn't: not enough room for our dog behind the back seats). My big concerns would be that it'd leave us stranded due to software bugs or quality issues. And that my wife would hate it due to the software bugs. And just to be clear: it's an appliance, not a car to want.
