The iOS 18.4 upgrade came out a few days ago. Since that time, a strange bug has emerged. While using CarPlay It has started replying to text messages without waiting for me to say I want to reply. It will say “do you want to reply to Bob?” and then immediately say “what do you want to say to bob?” without allowing me to say "yes" or "no" first. I’m using it on a 2025 AT fully updated to the latest version. I can't find anything online about this particular problem, but I have found several other 18.4 related bugs.

I have gone through all settings on my iPhone and it is not set to "auto respond" or any other such setting.

Anyone else having this problem?

I did hear recently that there are numerous CarPlay issues with iOS 18.4. Enough so that the article I saw recommended not upgrading until they patch it (for those who use CarPlay). I would imagine the issues should be gone by 18.4.1, so keep your eye out for that.

Found the article:

wow, I should have seen this a few minutes ago before I did the move to 18.4.
I now await the new adventures of carplay in my agt

I’m curious whether the Lucid display is big enough to accommodate the new option of three rows of app icons… that seems like the biggest enhancement of CarPlay in this update.

I have updated - it does not show 3 rows of icons. Neither does my wife's Genesis GV70. Apparently you need a 12"+ screen to get 3 rows of icons.

I stopped using Car Play for now after 18.4. I can hear callers but they cannot hear me.

I had only minor intermittent issues with 18.4. intermittently would not connect but a software reboot of the lucid always solved the problem. With regards to replying to messages, it would wait for me to say I wanted to reply, but if I dictated the message, when it asks if I want to send or change it, it always immediately sends. I can’t say “change it” fast enough to actually change the message.
I was hopeful 18.4.1 would be better. However, I got the update - my CarPlay always refuses to connect. I tried removing my phone and re-pairing a couple times without success. It offers the option to connect, but it never can complete it. I’m on a AT, software version 2.6.11

For what it’s worth, I’ve found that when the CarPlay connection is moving slowly or seemingly hung, just quickly plugging it into the charging cable I have between the seats (which also works for connectivity) launches CarPlay instantly, and I can then unplug and proceed flawlessly from there.

Not “just exactly perfect“, but an easy workaround.

My connection issues after the 18.4.1 update were happening via USB and wirelessly. However, for some reason after two days of nothing working, suddenly it started working when connected via USB. Strangely enough the first time it worked, I had sound issues, with sound (any sound, music, system notifications, etc) only comming through for about 1 second every 10 seconds. Then on the next drive everything worked when plugged in via USB.
It still is not connecting wirelessly, but via USB seems to work currently. 🤞
