Pickup required 350 miles away?

My delivery advisor called to confirm a few details and advised that I will need to come to Chicago to pick up my Lucid Touring, which is 350 miles away.

I asked how I'm supposed to drive home 5 1/2 hours in Dec/Jan on summer tires and he said he wasn't sure, but that's how it is.

I asked about the home delivery for any customers over 100 miles away and he advised that this is only for Grand Touring customers. Am I the only one that finds this completely unacceptable, if not a safety risk??

I am fortunate that I live in Scottsdale where there are both a design studio and service center and we are even close to the factory. But it sounds like you are in a location where the closest service center is Chicago and that is 350 miles away. Even ignoring the summer tire issue, I would not proceed with the purchase where service is this far away.

While Lucid may be the best option, it may not be the best for everyone and your circumstance may be one of the latter.

Wow! I was told by my DA at the beginning of the month that Home Delivery would be free of charge. WTF this is insane. How close are you to your local studio?

That's what I was expecting as well. I'm about 5 1/2 hours from the closest studio. I asked if I could pay extra for home delivery but was told it wasn't possible unless for a Grand Touring. Also asked if I could ship all season tires to them to be mounted for the drive but also not an option. The latter doesn't surprise me as they wouldn't want a non OEM tire on the car.

I'm assuming they want me to make arrangements to have it shipped, but they didn't mention this shipping requirement when I confirmed my order and I also feel that they should be making any arrangements needed as I'm not an expert on how to ship a car. Aside from the extra expense, I also don't want to be on the hook for any issues that happen in shipping as part of them delivering the car to me.

You're lucky to live so close! My local Lucid tech is actually 10 mins away in Ohio and there is a closer service (only) center ~3 hours away in Michigan.

I know. Now if Lucid would only finalize (AND PUBLISH) the specs for the RWD car! I can wait for production if I know that the car will be what I want at the price I expect but I don't want to wait another year and then find out that the final specs are not what I expected nor what I want.

Just received an update from the Lucid Goose Island Delivery Manager that they have made arrangements for transport with virtual home delivery, which is a great alternative to driving in snow on summer tires. Great follow-up from the Lucid delivery team!

If you are intending to get winter tires, I shopped around here in Chicago and landed on a great local tire shop that was able to help.

I am 2 1/2 hours away from Goose Island and my DA for my AGT just indicated that they are not sending out a delivery specialists anymore because of people shortages. They offered a zoom call walk through--I guess I'll roll with it. Adds to my disappointments though from the delays, missed communicated dates, inaccurate or lack of information, and being shuffled around. My experience with Tesla in buying a Model S during it's first year of sales in 2012/13 was much better. Hopefully the car owning experience shared by many will make up for this sale process.

@jtbg, I just started looking at the 20" winter tire alternatives. Not much out there. What did you end up with?

I'm in Utah and no delivery center near me, Arizona or Colorado which is over 8 hours drive in either direction.
They told me home delivery of Touring was possible.
That confuses me

For me, they are shipping the vehicle to my location but it will be delivered by a non-Lucid delivery person/company. On my AGT purchase order, there's a $145 "out of state processing fee" but other than that, no transport charges. I was told last spring when I confirmed my order that there wouldn't be any transport fees and that there would be someone there to walk me through the vehicle when it was delivered to the location I designated.

WOW. Did they charge you for a delivery fee? I would ask what that is for. I expect delivery to ME, not a site 350 miles away!
