Ordering and Delivery: Lucid Air Touring

Thanks for the reply. IRS website does not specify that EV has to be delivered before 12/31/22.

Specifically the paragraph-

Transition Rule for Vehicles Purchased before August 16, 2022

If you entered into a written binding contract to purchase a new qualifying electric vehicle before August 16, 2022, but do not take possession of the vehicle until on or after August 16, 2022 (for example, because the vehicle has not been delivered), you may claim the EV credit based on the rules that were in effect before August 16, 2022. The final assembly requirement does not apply before August 16, 2022.

Based on this, hopefully EV credit still valid even if delivery after 12/31/22! as men before up to IRS!!
Is only an order considered a “written binding contract to purchase”?

Is anyone else surprised that there has been little or no contact from DAs since we started to confirm our configurations? Of the 130 or so people in the tracker, there has only been a few (3 or 4) reporting contact with a DA. I would think they would be hustling to find information which might effect production and delivery. For instance, if it would allow production by the end of the year, would any of us be willing to pick up at the factory vs waiting for shipping? BTW - I would.
Honestly I don't think the DA conversation at this stage will be all that useful (mine wasn't). Other than collecting your registration info, which you should be able to just submit via the website, they really don't have much more information at this point.

Finally heard from my DA this evening. He’s based out of Scottsdale, evidently. Talking with him tomorrow.

My guess is each of these DAs have hundreds of Touring customers to contact. So it may take a while to contact all of us.

My DA emailed me one week after I confirmed but hasn’t scheduled a call with me after I gave her my availability. Perhaps, she is booked out also, but communication is key to a satisfactory experience, so I hope to hear from her about a call appt.

I talked to my SA the day I confirmed and she told me the DA would reach out “in a couple weeks”. I provided the requested registration information including a jpeg of my driver’s license on that day so I’m not expecting much until my VIN is assigned.

It's not that you won't get a tax rebate if you don't choose DDP, but instead it is about taking delivery in 2022.

If you fully spec out your Touring (meaning taking the glass canopy, Dream Drive Pro and Surreal Sound Pro) AND don't take the Mojave interior or Stealth, you have the best chance to have your Touring model delivered first and first may be before the end of 2022.

The Mojave interior, metal roof, and Stealth package all state they would have later availability (ie likely 2023).

There are a few tax credit threads that will get you up to speed (and likely confused as we all are) with regards to it.

To sum up.
If you bought/took delivery before the Inflation reduction act, you'll get the credit.
If you signed a binding contract (open for about 7-10 days prior to the Act being signed) and take delivery in 2022, there is a good chance you get the credit.
If you signed the binding contract and take delivery in 2023.......we don't know the answer to that.
If you buy and take delivery in 2023 without the binding contract, you won't get the tax credit.

Good question. I guess when I ordered the car before Aug deadline, and my refundable deposit became non-refundable I guess that’s a binding contract to purchase.

I too just heard from my Scottsdale DA, Brandon Johnson. I scheduled a 20 minute call for the 16th. I figured it would be more productive after the announcement on the 15th.

I doubt it. The Pure will have its own production line.
How do you know? Did they say that in a press release or a conference call?

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! As long as you converted it prior to the bill passing and converted your deposit to non-refundable.

Scooter ..your point is well noted! It has been top-of-mind for me going back to Aug as we were invited to convert our reservations over to orders. I advised my SA [at the time] to ask if LUCID would allow those of us wanting to take delivery of our car as it completed the final QA/QC process at AMP-1 (and, of course, forego paying the delivery charge). Unfortunately the response was no. Although it wasn't so much about saving the delivery charge [for me] as it was being impressed by touring [no pun intended] AMP-1, I would have enjoyed just observing the end to end build process of the vehicles.. and then driving home.

Hey Joe.. I received an invitation to meet with Brandon [one of the two DA's [in Scottsdale] a day after my SA & I discussed the [infamous] email notification. Brandon did a good job of setting the expectation for what comes next and how the process unfolds until delivery. You've been actively engaged in this forum therefore you may not learn much more than you know, but [simply] having the single point of contact to address questions / concerns with through to the end helps to temper that last mile anxiety before crossing the finish line!

The Newport Beach associate studio manager contacted me after I finalized my design. However, there has been no contact from any DA. I was able to complete all of the registration information online. However, my preference is that my car gets delivered in January.

I received a call from my DA the day after I confirmed my configuration. She is at the Torrance service center and invited me over to see a car with the 20” wheels.

Thanks. Yeah, more than anything, I wanted to hear a human voice confirm that my car is on its way to production. All these automated emails are hard to trust.

And like you said, having that point of contact for delivery is essential. I believe my original SA based out of Denver is no longer with the company. So I wanted to know who would be handling all the logistics.

I received my email and finalized my order on 11/2. I received an email from my DA the next morning. I set up a call through his linked calendar for that afternoon. Conversation was very helpful. No further interaction since.

Finalized order on 11/3 and email from DA on 11/7 and spoke to him today. Went over payment process and ordering additional accessories (mojave mats, wheels and outdoor cover). Next time I will hear from him will be when VIN is assigned - car will go thru Chicago service then to NJ. Should be before end of year delivery.
